The objective of the study is to evaluate Olibanum resin, a natural resin polymer as matrix polymer for controlled release tablets and to design matrix tablets of diclofenac for controlled release. Matrix tablets of diclofenac were formulated employing Olibanum resin in different proportions of drug and polymer and the tablets were evaluated for drug release kinetics and mechanism. Two diluents namely lactose (water soluble) and DCP (water insoluble) were included in the formulations to assess their influence on drug release characteristics of olibanum resin matrix tablets. Matrix tablets were found to be non- disintegrating in water, acidic (pH 1.2) and alkaline (pH 7.4) fluids and were considered suitable for oral controlled release. Diclofenac release from the matrix tablets formulated was slow and spread over 24 h and depended on the concentration (%) of olibanum resin in the matrix tablets and nature/type of diluent. Background: Evidences notify that most of higher learning students rush to range of maladaptive high-risk activities like, substance and sexual abuse which predispose to HIV. More often this is unrecognized and not well researched. Objective: To determine magnitude of substance use and risky sexual behavior for HIV transmission among students in Hosanna Health Science College from December 1, 2010 to December 30, 2010. Methods and Materials: Cross sectional study undertaken among statistically determined (n) =428 and randomly selected Students from all departments and years of study in Hossana Health Science College. Piloted and self-administered questionnaire were used to collect data. Summary measures like mean, chi-square and regression were utilized to quantify magnitude and identify independently associated factors. Results: Majority 267 (63.1%) of study participants were female, and 379 (89.5%) in age group (17-24). From 423 participants, 330(78.0%) were, sexually experienced. Clitoria ternatea L. (Family: Fabaceae) is being used in traditional medicine for the treatment of severe bronchitis and asthma. So the aim of study was to evaluate antioxidant and antiasthmatic activity of ethanol extract of Clitoria ternatea roots. The present investigation was undertaken to evaluate the histamine-induced bronchospasm of alcoholic extract of Clitorea ternatea Linn. roots in experimental animals. Bronchodilator activity of aqueous extract of C. ternatea studied on the histamine aerosol induced bronchospasm in wister rats. Treatment with alcoholic extract of clitorea ternatea (400 mg/kg, p.o) showed significant protection against histamine aerosol induced broncho-spasm in wister rats. The results of the histamine- induced bronchospasm paradigms demonstrate bronchospasmolytic activity of ethanolic extract of clitorea ternatea (400 mg/kg, p.o.). Clitorea ternarea shows 47.45 % protection against histamine induced bronchoconstriction in rats. Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br. is a plant of family Apocynaceae and has a great medicinal importance. It is widely used by tribal people to treat various diseases and ailments. The present communication deals with the organoleptic and preliminary physico-phytochemical studies of the stem bark of the plant. The organoleptic study was done according to the W.H.O. guidelines for medicinal plants. The physicochemical parameters viz. loss on drying, ash values and extractive values were calculated.
