Glinus oppositifolius (Linn) is a branched herb containing linear to obovate, opposite leaves with greenish flowers, and it belongs to the molluginaceae family. This bitter leafy vegetable is known as gima shak in West Bengal, Assam & Bangladesh. This leaf contains various bioactive components which provide protection against diabetes, hyperlipidaemia, joint pain, inflammation, diarrhea, skin disorder, etc. Previous nutritional analysis in our laboratory found that the iron content of these gima leaves is high. A randomized study was conducted among poor adult subjects who are socio-economically backward and have no chronic diseases. 18-65yrs aged people were randomly selected from slum areas of Kolkata. Among them, Fifty-Five samples consumed 50 gm boiled gima paste as supplementation for 45 days. Data on their dietary habits, anthropometry, medication habits, and haematological parameters were analyzed. Supplementation of gima revealed that there is70%&64% increase in haemoglobin among men and women respectively, whereas females of 40-60 years showed more positive changes than men. After supplementation of gima, the iron storage i.e. ferritin level, showed a 76% and 66.6% increase in...

Background: Covid-19 has become a global threat. All most all the countries are facing this pandemic. This pandemic has greatly affected the medical education and medical students who are tomorrow’s doctors. So, they need to have a wide awareness regarding the knowledge, attitude, and practice towards this Covid-19 infection. Objective: To study the knowledge, attitude, and practice of medical students regarding the Covid–19 pandemic. Material and Method: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted on 260 medical students of J.L.N. Medical College, Ajmer (Rajasthan). A total of 20 questionnaires in which, 10 in the knowledge section, 5 each in the attitude and practice section, were provided in July – August, 2021. Results: A total of 260 responses were collected and studied. The male to female ratio in the study population was 0.91. A total of 54.46% of students gave correct responses regarding the knowledge section. 87.31% of students show a positive attitude towards vaccination. Overall positivity regarding attitude was 76.61%. 95 % of Students were proactive regarding washing their...

Objective: Active chemical constituent in plants exhibits pharmacological action. Hence this research work aimed to identify and quantitate oleanolic acid. Methods: A simple, high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) is developed and validated to identify and quantify oleanolic acid. The extracts were spotted as bands on aluminum TLC plates which were pre-coated with silica gel. Different compositions of mobile phase tried for high resolution and reproducible results. Mobile phase composition toluene: methanol: ethyl acetate (8.5:1:0.5 V/V) utilized. Plates were derivatized with 10% sulphuric acid and scanned. Oleanolic acid was detected quantitatively at 529nm. Result: In the selected mobile phase, Rf value for oleanolic acid was found to be 0.35, which indicated a good separation. The Chromatography method was validated with respect to Linearity range (ng), Intraday and Interday precision, Instrumental Precision, Quantitation Limit i.e., LOQ (ng), Detection Limit, i.e., LOD (ng), Repeatability for oleanolic acid as per ICH guidelines. Oleanolic acid calibration graph in 200-1200 ng range per band was found linear with correlation coefficient value 0.998. All the parameters obeyed...

Determine the fungicidal activity of five disinfectants on Candida auris of clinical and environmental origin. Assess the fungicidal efficiency of each disinfectant on the microorganism. Calculate the percentage of efficiency (% E) of each disinfectants on Candida strain and determine the specific death rate (k) and decimal reduction time for microorganisms. Analytic and experimental research with quantitative methods. We realized a strain’s workbench by culturing it in corresponding culture media. Analysis was a challenge essay, performed on four surfaces and at different exposure times; 1, 5, 15, and 30 minutes of contact between disinfectant and yeast. Once the disinfection process was carried out, what was expected was that after 15 minutes of contact between the yeasts and the disinfectants, a percentage of inhibition of the microorganism between 90 and 95% was presented, thus guaranteeing the duration of elimination of the infectious agent by disinfectants. Results show that after one minute of contact between Candida auris and disinfectant in a gloved hand, the yeast was removed when the clinical and...

Background & objectives: Diallyl disulphide (DADS) is an active component of garlic that has been claimed to have hypoglycemic effect and are beneficial in achieving glycemic control in diabetes mellitus (DM). The present study was conducted to assess the glucose utilization in erythrocytes in diabetic subjects after the exposure of DADS. Methods: The blood samples were collected from diabetic subjects; the plasma and erythrocytes were separated. The fasting plasma glucose levels were measured and the separated erythrocytes from diabetic blood samples were preincubated and posted incubated with DADS. The glucose utilized by erythrocytes and the percentage of glucose utilization were measured. Results: The present study results showed that diabetic erythrocytes exposed to DADS showed a significant rise of glucose utilization compared to untreated erythrocytes, which signifies the positive influence of DADS on glucose utilization in diabetic patients’ erythrocytes. Conclusion: DADS, through the formation of thiol derivatives, promotes glucose utilization by mimicking the actions of insulin in diabetic erythrocytes after post-incubation. This study can be concluded that DADS can be...
