The quality of treatment and management of uncomplicated malaria depends on healthcare workers’ and patients’ characteristics, in addition to resource availability. This study assessed predictors of healthcare workers’ knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) on uncomplicated malaria in primary healthcare (PHC) facilities in Plateau state, Nigeria. Secondary data of 289 healthcare workers involved in the management of the disease in PHC facilities of Plateau state were used for the study. Also, data on the availability of material resources for managing the disease in the PHC facilities were collected using a facility review form (FRF). Multinomial logistic regression analyses were performed to identify predictors of healthcare workers’ KAP on uncomplicated malaria. The findings revealed age (years old) (p = 0.032), occupation (p = 0.004), monthly salary (p = 0.021), availability of required drugs (p = 0.046), and practices (p = 0.001) as significant predictors of healthcare workers’ knowledge on uncomplicated malaria, with only monthly salary (p = 0.049) predicting their attitudes on the disease and its management. Their gender (p =...

The present investigation deals with the development and evaluation of floating microballoons of furosemide to extend the gastric residence time (GRT) and prolong the drug release. In the present work, floating micro balloons of furosemide were formulated using eudragit RS 100, eudragit S 100, and HPMC K4M and ethylcellulose polymers by the solvent evaporation method. The prepared micro balloons were evaluated for their physicochemical properties, in-vitro drug release, and in-vitro buoyancy. The in-vitro release studies demonstrated that micro balloons of furosemide prepared using eudragit RS 100 along with eudragit S 100 in 1:1 ratio (FSDF10) shown the maximum amount of drug release; hence it is considered as the optimized formulation. The in-vitro release kinetics revealed that the optimized formulation releases the drug in zero-order manner based on the regression values of kinetic models. The optimized formulation was used for in-vivo evaluation. The in-vivo Radiographic study showed that the BaSo4 loaded optimized formulation remained buoyant up to 5.5 h in the stomach. The in-vivo pharmacokinetic study conducted in healthy albino...

In the present investigation, some novel Mannich Bases of Pyrazoline derivatives(7a-g) is synthesized by treating various substituted acetophenones (1a-g) with 6-methaoxy-1-napthaldehyde (2) in alcoholic sodium hydroxide to obtained intermediate Chalcones (3a-g), which was further treated with isonicotinohydrazide (4) to get (3-(4-substituted phenyl)-5-(6-methoxy naphthalen-1-yl)-4, 5-dihydro- 1H-pyrazol-1-yl) (pyridin-4-yl) methanone (5a-g). Further, it is refluxed for 6-10 h. with 4-chloroaniline (6) and formaldehyde in methanol to afford Mannich Bases i.e. (4-(((4-chlorophenyl) amino) methyl) -5-(6-methoxynaphthalen -1-yl)-3-substituted phenyl-4, 5-dihydro- 1H-pyrazol-1–yl )(pyridin-4-yl) methanone (7a-g). The structure of synthesized Mannich bases was confirmed on the basis of Spectral data (IR, 1H NMR, mass, and elemental analysis) and evaluated for the antimicrobial activity. The antimicrobial data revealed that the synthesized derivative possesses very promising to moderate antibacterial and antifungal...

Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) comprises a wide variety of damage, starting from steatosis to liver cancer. ALD results from a multifactorial interaction between behavioral, ecological and hereditary factors. This study aimed to evaluate the hepatoprotective effect of ethanolic extract of Premna tomentosa (EEPT) on ethanolic toxicity liver. The characterization of EEPT extract was performed using standard biochemical analysis. Thirty-six male albino Wistar rats were divided into 6 groups; Hepatotoxicity was induced using 40% ethanol (1ml/100gm b.w) for 10 days. Group I received distilled water. Group II, III, IV, V were administered with 40% ethanol (1 ml/100gm); Group III and IV was given EEPT (500 and 750 mg/kg, b.w), Group V receives Ayurvedic drug (Liv 52 1ml/100gm) and Group VI was given EEPT (500 mg/kg) for forty-five days. Total body weight, wet weight of the liver, serum total bilirubin, aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase was compared and assessed statistically. EEPT of 500 and 750 mg/kg shows a significant (p<0.01) reduction of liver enzymes, it shows the protection against ethanol-induced...

Aim and Objectives: The present study was an attempt to investigate the effect of Thetran vidhai kudineer (TVK) on streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetes in male Wistar rats. Methods: TVK, is a Siddha polyherbal formulation containing four ingredients includes Strynchnos potatorum, Terminalia chebula, Cassia auriculata, and Limonia acidissima. 6-8 week old 30 male Wistar albino rats fed with normal diet ad libitum and free access to water containing 10% fructose (w/v) for 5 weeks. After five weeks of dietary manipulation, all groups except the normal control group received a single injection intraperitoneal (ip) of STZ (40 mg/kg b.w.) dissolved in citrate buffer (pH 4.4). One week after the STZ injection, animals with non-fasting blood glucose levels > 250 mg/dl were considered as diabetic. Four groups of STZ-induced diabetic rats were orally treated with metformin (100 mg/kg) and TVK (300, 600, and 1200 mg/kg b.w), respectively. Bodyweight recording was done weekly; fasting blood glucose levels were measured at the end of 8th week, 10th week, 12th week. Lipid profile, SGOT, SGPT,...
