Introduction: Early treatment in growing patient is of value as the guidance of occlusion to normalcy can shorten the treatment time in mature patients. The removable appliance is commonly used by pediatric dentist to intercept malocclusion in such patients, but it brings a major drawback with it of being compliance dependent. Fixed appliance therapy is better accepted and has better wear compliance in young patients. One such fixed appliance proven to be successful when given in mixed dentition is a quad helix. Modified quad helix can prove to be a very versatile appliance. This case report discusses the advantage, mode of action and effects obtained by novel modification of quad helix. This appliance was chosen to achieve slow maxillary expansion and also to gain space for labially placed tooth simultaneously. Clinical Significance: Quad helix being a multifaceted appliance, this neoteric appliance design could be of help for pediatric dentists in treating such similar...

Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a type of breast cancer in which receptors such as estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 are absent. Triple-negative breast cancer is a high risk breast cancer that lacks the benefit of specific therapy that targets these receptors. In the present study, anethole an aromatic compound from star anise was exposed to TNBC cell line MDA-MB-231 to assess its anticancer property. Cytotoxicity assay was done to determine and optimize the dose. DNA damage was analyzed by DNA fragmentation method. The use of targeted agents against TNBC such as poly-ADP-ribose and insulin like growth factor receptor were investigated in the present study. The drug-target interaction was investigated using in-silico docking studies. The in-silico study provides evidence for the interaction of anethole with the target proteins namely poly ADP-ribose polymerase (PARP) and insulin like growth factor receptor (IGFIR). This interaction is presumably vital in exerting the anticancerous activity. The present study clearly elucidates that anethole possesses anticancer activity against the...

This study was conducted to evaluate the clinical usefulness of new developed kit of 99mTc-TRODAT-1 to differentiate PD(Parkinson disease) from volunteer subjects. The 925-1111MBq (25-30 mCi) 99mTc-TRODAT-1 samples were reconstituted by boiling water bath method. Fourteen subjects (women = 6, men = 8, age range 24 – 72, mean = 54.4) have been participated in this approach. The control group included (women = 2, men = 2, age = 25-70, mean = 54.75) and the other group included 10 PD patients (women = 4, men = 6, age = 42-72, mean = 54.1) the different stages of PD. Hoehin and Yahr Scale criteria was chosen for clinical evaluation of PD patients. Brain SPECT study has been performed using a single-headed gamma camera 3 hours post intravenous injection. Visual inspection of radiotracer uptake in the striatum and semi-quantitative analyses were performed. The radio-HPLC analysis indicated that the 99mTc-TRODAT-1 samples were successfully prepared with a radiochemical purity over 90 %. Semi-quantitative analysis demonstrated that the negative relation between the striatal uptake...

The rhizome of Tectaria cicutaria has been used in Indian traditional medicine for the treatment of various disorders. Different extracts of the rhizomes of Tectaria cicutaria were subjected to phytochemical analysis, anti-microbial activity and in-vitro anticancer activity. The in-vitro anticancer activity was performed using Sulforhodamine B (SRB) assay against various cancer cell lines namely Human Leukemia Cell Line (K562), Human Nasopharyngeal Cancer Cell Line (KB), Human Colon Cancer Cell Line (HT29) and Human Colon Cancer Cell Line (Colo205). Phytochemical analysis confirmed the presence of bioactive compounds. The total phenolic contents (TPC) and total flavonoid contents (TFC) of ethanolic extract was found significantly higher and showed antimicrobial activity against Proteus vulgaris. Out of the various extracts and cell lines used for studying anticancer activity, the ethanolic extract showed excellent anticancer activity against Human Leukemia Cell Line (K562) with GI50 value 11.9 µg/ml. The present work has for the first time, tried to elucidate the activity of different extracts of Tectaria cicutaria on human cancer cell...

The objective of the study was to fabricate protein nanoparticles for better controlled and targeting action of drug, which can also overcome the problems like multidose therapy, poor patient compliance and high cost associated with conventional formulations. Memantine HCl loaded casein nanoparticles (F1 to F6) were prepared by ionically cross-linked method. The formulated nanoparticles were evaluated for external morphological characters, determination of particle size analysis, zeta potential, drug content, entrapment efficiency and in-vitro release studies. The particle size varied from 148 to 317 nm and zeta potential was in negative and its value found to be – 46.4 mV. The drug content for the Memantine HCl loaded casein nanoparticles varied from 69.5 ± 7.2% to 87.9 ± 1.2%. The entrapment efficiencies were found to be minimum and maximum of 55.50 ± 2.4% and 86.30 ± 3.6%. The percentage yields of all formulations were in the range of 48.24 ± 1.24 to 86.13 ± 1.37%. In-vitro release of drug follows zero order and showed sustained release behaviour for a period...
