Post-operative delirium is transient global disorder showing reduced cognition, altered consciousness and psychomotor activity as well as deranged sleep-wake cycle. For elderly patients undergoing hip surgery, the reported incidence varies from 16% to 62% with average rate of 35%. Pharmacotherapy management of post-operative delirium may entail use of drugs belonging to groups like sedatives, antipsychotics, analgesics and others. The aim of this study was to assess the efficacy and safety of diazepam compared to haloperidol in post-operative delirium. A retrospective analysis of all elderly (>65 years) undergoing hip surgery in our department between 2014 to 2016 was done to identify patients developing post-operative delirium and those treated with Diazepam or with Haloperidol were divided in separate groups. We compared these groups for parameters like duration of postoperative hospital stay, duration of delirium, number of patients showing complications and adverse events. Total 506 patients meeting inclusion criteria were identified. Vascular malformations are one of the most common lesions of the oral cavity. The lesion may be a congenital malformation observed in neonates or arteriovenous malformation observed in adults. The treatment of these lesions includes surgical excision, cryotherapy, selective embolization and treatment with intralesional sclerosing agents. We present two cases of benign oral vascular lesions treated with intralesional injection of 30mg/ml sodium tetradecyl sulfate. One lesion virtually disappeared after one session of sclerotherapy, leaving a fibrotic lesion. No side effects were observed. The other lesion resulted in a severe inflammatory response including pain, swelling and surface ulceration up to more than 2 weeks. Sclerotherapy with sodium tetradecyl sulfate is effective in treating smaller benign oral vascular lesions, and the use of the sodium tetradecyl sulfate provides alternative or support for surgical methods. Ziprasidone HCl is a newly introduced atypical antipsychotic drug. It has its own unique multi receptor binding affinity. This makes it a unique special choice of antipsychotic agent. It mainly acts as antagonist of D2 dopamine receptors as and 5HT2A (serotonin, 5HT, 5-hydroxytryptamine) receptors. It is pinkish brown colored powder having very low solubility in water (21.12 mg/L). The main purpose of this study is to enhance the solubility of Ziprasidone HCl using lyophilisation technique. The β-Cyclodextrine and Hydroxy Propyl- β-Cyclodextrine were used as the water soluble carriers for increasing the solubility of Ziprasidone. All the inclusion complexes prepared by lyophilisation technique showed remarkable increase in the solubility compared to the pure Ziprasidone HCl. The saturation solubility analysis demonstrated highest increase in the solubility of drug after complexation with HP-β-CD by lyophilisation technique. Curcumin has been shown to inhibit the activation of nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB), which is closely linked to chemo-resistance, in multiple myeloma cells. Malignant cells of this kind typically develop progressive multidrug resistance. Our aim was to investigate new possibilities for overcoming this resistance by suppressing cell signaling pathways. MTT-dye reduction assay was used to evaluate the cytotoxic activity of degrasyn, curcumin and Arsenic (ATO) on U-266, RPMI-8226 cell lines. Carfilzomib served as reference drug. Western blot analysis was performed. In RPMI-8226 cells evident activation of caspase 3 by ATO was seen. PARP cleavage was detected after degrasyn treatment. Curcumin led to PARP degradation as well. Caspase 9 was found to be activated by ATO, degrasyn and Carfilzomib. LC3b (autophagy hallmark) level was increased after exposure to ATO, curcumin and degrasyn.
