Thalassemia is among the most common genetic disorders worldwide. It constitutes a major public health problem in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The present study assessed the level of awareness regarding thalassemia among the students of RAK Medical and Health Sciences University, Ras Al Khaimah, UAE. A specially designed, pretested and validated questionnaire was distributed to the students and their responses were recorded. Out of the total 200 students, 51.5% were from pharmacy college, 29.5% were from medical college whereas 16% and 3% were from nursing and dental colleges respectively. Majority (62.5%) of respondents were female. The mean knowledge score of pharmacy students was highest 5.66 ± 2.02 out of a maximum of 7, as compared to 5.16 ± 0.81 of dental students, 4.47 ± 1.97 of medical students and 4.34 ± 2.26 of nursing students. However, mean attitude score of dental students was the highest 3.83 ± 0.40 out of a maximum of 4, but was not much different when compared to 3.64 ± 0.66 of medical students...

Objective: 3-Substituted Schiff bases of Quinazolne-2,4-diones belongs to the N-containing heterocyclic compounds. The aim of the present study is to synthesis and characterization of ten novel derivatives of 3-Substituted Schiff bases of Quinazoline2,4-diones and their pharmacological study. In the current course of work the novel Schiff bases of Quinazolne-2,4-diones which are synthesized are evaluated for Anti-bacterial study. Materials and Methods: Present research synthesis work of 3-Substituted Schiff bases of Quinazoline 2,4-diones involve two step along with greener method and conventional method of synthesis. 3-Substituted Schiff bases of Quinazoline 2,4-diones have been evaluated for Anti-bacterial study by disc diffusion method. Result: The Schiff bases of quinazoline2,4-diones have been synthesized successfully as per the designed scheme of synthesis which includes Greener and conventional method. The greener method found to the more advantageous as compared to the conventional method. These compounds are characterized by various physicochemical and spectral analysis by the FT-IR spectral analysis and 1H-NMR. The Synthesized compounds possessed the antibacterial activity. Conclusion: The result of the present research study thus...

Morus indica- MI-S36 is a potential source of phytochemicals and is well explored for its medicinal properties such as antidiabetic and antioxidant activity. In the present study, Mous indica aqueous (MAq) and dechlorophyllised (MDc) extracts efficacy to protect against the carbon tetrachloride (CCl4) induced hepatotoxicity was studied in rats in comparison with standard drug Liv52. The experimental group rats were pre treated with MAq, MDc and Liv52 for 7days. Healthy control and positive control group animals were fed wth Olive oil and after 7days two doses of CCl4 was given at 12 and 36 hrs intervals to all the animal groups. After 12 hrs of CCl4 dosage animals were sacrificed and biochemical parameters analysed in the serum. The total protein, albumin, urea, creatinine, total bilirubin were within the normal level in all the groups whereas the hepatic enzymes AST, ALT and ALP activity was less in Liv52 and Morus treated groups. Total cholesterol, triglycerides, were determined. The total cholesterol and triglyceride levels in Morus treated groups were significantly (p...

The extracts of Spinacia oleracia leaves studied for Phytochemical screening and different extract of Spinacia oleracea leaves was studied for immunomodulatory activity. The immunomodulatory effect was evaluated by delayed type hypersensitivity response using SRBCs. The n-hexane, dichloromethane, methanolic and aqueous extract of Spinacia oleracea leaves was studies for DTH response. The dichloromethane extract of Spinacia oleracea leaves extract showed significant increase in the hypersensitivity response, indicating its effect on cell mediated immunity. From the above result, it was concluded that the preliminary Phytochemical analysis revealed that different active constituent present in different extracts such as carbohydrates, proteins, amino acids, fat, oils, steroids, terpenoids, glycosides, alkaloids, tannins and other phenolics compounds and the dichloromethane extract of Spinacia oleracea has a significant effect on cell mediated...

An HPLC method was developed with the aim of quantifying the levels of Methyl Vinyl Ketone (MVK), a Potential Genotoxic Impurity (PGI), in Ivabradine HCl. A limit level concentration of 0.5 ppm for MVK was calculated by applying the concept of Threshold of Toxicological Concern (TTC). The developed HPLC method employs a Phenyl analytical column (150 mm х 4.6 mm, 3.5 μ), 5-μL injection volume, mobile phase of buffer (pH 2.5)-acetonitrile [gradient elution], a column temperature of 50°C and a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The retention time of MVK obtained was approximately 4.0 minutes in a program with run time of 22 minutes. The Limit of Detection was 0.06 ppm and Limit of Quantitation was 0.2 ppm. The method proved to be sensitive, linear, accurate and precise in the specified range (LOQ to 150 % of limit level concentration). The validated method was applied for identification and quantification of MVK in different batches of the...
