The Vitex negundo, which is traditional Indian medicine, has been used for treatment of various diseases. A simple, sensitive, precise and accurate RP-HPLC method has been developed for the analysis of Vitex negundo L. samples and its polyherbal formulations for their Betulinic acid content. The extraction was checked using different solvents like methanol, chloroform, 95% ethanol, acetone and dichloromethane. It was found chloroform was good extraction solvent that allowed extraction of Betulinic acid with highest content. The method involves RP C18 column with methanol-acetonitrile-water (90:5:5 % v/v/v) pH 2.5 adjusted with ortho phosphoric acid as mobile phase and UV detection at 270 nm. The flow rate was 1.3 ml/min. The retention time was 2.29 min. The linearity range was 5-30 μg/ml. The method was validated for linearity range, precision, LOD, LOQ, robustness and accuracy. Mean recovery was 99.16-100.76 %. The method was successfully applied for the quantification of Betulinic acid in leaves, seeds of Vitex negundo L. and its polyherbal formulations. The results demonstrated that the content of Betulinic...

Wheatgrass is one grass that has been demonstrated to be of particular use to humans as a nutritional source of vitamins, enzymes, minerals, trace minerals and chlorophyll in addition to its various health benefits. Wheat grass in powder form is a method for preserving wheat grass nutrients with long shelf life and use of wheat grass powder is more convenient than wheat grass juice. Objective: To estimate the antioxidant properties of wheat grass powder obtained by different drying methods. Research Design: Different drying methods used for preparation of wheat grass powder were 1) Hot air oven drying [50˚C, 6 hr and 60˚C, 5hr] 2) Microwave drying [600W, 15 min and 800 W, 10 min] 3) Vacuum oven drying [50˚C, 25kPa, 6 hr]. For estimation of the antioxidant properties of wheat grass powder samples, chlorophyll content, Total Phenol Content and % Anti-Radical Activity were measured. Result: In the quantitative analysis of antioxidant component, microwave dried wheat grass powder samples [600W, 15 min] had highest mean value of total phenol content...

Chlorella pyrenoidosa is a fresh water microalgae used as substrate for production of value added products like biodiesel. In this investigation C.pyrenoidosa was grown for ten days in an internally illuminated bubble column photobioreactor at: 450 lux green light (495–570 nm), 480 lux red light (620–750 nm), 1663 lux blue light (450–495 nm), 1986 luxwhite light (380 to 750 nm).The results after a period of ten days of growth, showed that C.pyrenoidosa has grown better under blue light when compared to the other types of light. C.pyrenoidosa biomass produced 33.8% of lipid contentwhen grown under blue light, indicating its potential as alternative source of...

To investigate the effects of ginger-juice (Zingiber officinale roscoe) on amphetamine-induced locomotor activity in rat. Methods: (A) Albino rats (n=6-12) were administered G.J at the single doses (4 ml/rat, p.o) as single administration (acute) and chronic treatment over period of 7 days. Following this assessment was done. Effect of treatment with G.J acutely and chronically (7days) administered, was assessed. Parameters used during assessment were locomotor activity. Results: The ginger-juice treatment of acute and chronic (4ml/rat for 7 days) and amphetamine-induced locomotor activity has not produced any effect on any parameter of the loco motor activity Conclusion: Ginger administered itself did not affect loco motor activity as well as amphetamine-induced enhancement of loco motor...

A simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method was developed and optimized for the determination of content of mono isopropylamine at very low levels in Carisoprodol and Isoproterenol hydrochloride. The method was based upon the observation, that characterstic colour results up on addition of colour reagent (consists of Acetyl acetone, formaldehyde and pyridine) and heat for 10 minutes on water bath to form coloured complex. This coloured complex is slightly yellow and its absorption maximum at 420 nm. The optimized method was validated to prove its performance characterstic by demonstrating selectivity, sensitivity(limit of detection and quantification), linearity, precision and accuracy. The established limit of detection and limit of quantification of mono isopropylamine was found to be 3.3µg/ml and 10µg/ml respectively. The present work was aimed to develop a visible spectrophotometric method, which is simple, sensitive, accurate and cost effective to evaluate the quality of the bulk...
