The purpose is to formulate the solid self emulsifying drug delivery system (S-SEDDS) to improve poor aqueous solubility and dissolution of ciprofloxacin. A solubility study was carried out, and then Soyabean oil (as oil phase), Tween 20 (as surfactant), and Span 80 (as co-surfactant) were selected for preparation of emulsion by titration method. Adsorption to solid carrier technique was used for solid SEDDS, areosil (Colloidal silica) used as adsorbent. In that formulation, I was having carbopol 934 and another formulation II HPMC K 4 M. The flow properties of all formulation were within the acceptable range; therefore, they can be easily filled into capsule. IR spectral and DSC thermograph analysis showed that there was chemical interaction between drug and polymer. In-vitro release studies were carried out in phosphate buffer pH 7.4. Release profile of pure drug formulation showed 38%, formulation I showed highest 54% cumulative drug release and formulation II showed lowest i.e. 14% drug release. Student’s t-test was determined for In-vitro drug release data for different polymeric formulations...

The recent emergence of the Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) of SARS‐CoV‐2 has added alarm to the eternal flame of the global COVID‐19 pandemic. Omicron was first identified in Botswana in November 2021. The omicron is thought to be at least three times more infectious than the previous variants. Omicron can cause diseases varying from asymptomatic, mild, and severe infection and people have died from omicron in a second pandemic wave that occurred in March-May 2021. This variant has been detected in more than 77 countries worldwide as per WHO until January 2022. The spike protein is the target of most COVID-19 vaccines and is what the virus uses to unlock access to our body’s immune cells, many of which (69–70del (deletion), T95I, G142D/143–145del, K417N, N679K, T478K, N501Y, N655Y, and P681H) overlap with Alpha, Beta, Gamma, or Delta variants. Some spike protein mutations include A67V, Δ69-70, T95I, G142D/Δ143-145, Δ211/L212I, ins214EPE G339D, S371L, S373P, S375F, etc. Remarkable mutations in the furin cleavage site may increase transmissibility and replication as in Alpha (P681H)...

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by red, scaly and raised patches, and it has affected nearly 2-3% of the population worldwide. This skin disorder occurs when the immune system sends faulty signals that result in the speeding up of the skin cell cycle. Psoriasis is histologically characterized by marked hyperproliferation of keratinocytes, neutrophils, and a dense inflammatory infiltrate of T cells. Vascular dilation and proliferation are also observed. The primary defect in psoriasis patients was believed to be an abnormal epidermal cell proliferation. Psoriatic skin exhibits an advanced state of lipid peroxidation. It has been suggested that antioxidant treatment can help in the management of the disorder. Literature indicates that polyphenolic compounds found in plants have a positive effect on many chronic diseases. Natural polyphenols, recognized as potent antioxidants, are multi-functional molecules that can act as anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative agents through the modulation of multiple signalling pathways. This characteristic could be advantageous for the treatment of multi-causal diseases, such as psoriasis. Genistein is one of such...

Natural products offer great hope in the identification of bioactive compounds and their development into drugs for the treatment of various diseases. The present study aims to evaluate the antioxidant potential of Portunus pelagicus. P. pelagicus (Station-I) possessed 33.14% of inhibition, the highest DPPH activity, whereas Station II and Station III showed 31.42% and 30.85% of inhibition. Portunus pelagicus possessed 3.34% reducing ability at 1000 µg/ml concentration in the present study in station I, station II exhibited 2.62%, and station III shpwed2.55% at 1000 µg/ml concentration. The highest reducing ability was recorded at the station I, compared to stations II and III. The present study revealed that the tissue extract of Portunus pelagicus has antioxidant capacity, and it needs further characterization to improve the pharmacologically active marine natural...

A nafion plus functionalized-multiwalled carbon nanotubes modified glassy carbon electrode (f-MWCNTs/GCE) was developed for the determination of anti-depressant drug mirtazapine (MIR). The electro-chemical behavior of the molecule was investigated employing cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronocoulometry (CC), and differential pulse adsorptive stripping voltammetry (DPASV). The surface morphology of the electrodes has been studied through scanning electron microscopy (SEM). These studies revealed that the oxidation of MIR is facilitated at f-MWCNTs/GCE. After optimization of analytical conditions employing this electrode at pH 10.5 of 0.04M carbonate buffer for MIR, the peak currents were found to be linearly with different concentrations in the range of 6.72 × 10-6 M to 3.74 × 10-4 M for MIR. The detection limits were obtained of 32.45 × 10-8 M and 9.45 × 10-7 M for MIR, using DP-AAdSV. The prepared modified electrode has several advantages, such as simple in preparation method, showed high sensitivity with very low detection limits, and gave excellent reproducibility. The proposed method was also employed for the determination of MIR in pharmaceutical formulations,...
