The methanolic extract along with some organic soluble fractions of the bark of Dillenia indica Linn. were tested against four Gram-positive and seven Gram-negative bacteria and against three pathogenic fungi. n-Hexane and dichloromethane fractions showed remarkable activities against all the tested bacteria but n-Hexane fraction showed highest activity against Shigella dysenteriae and its zone of inhibition was 15.51 ± 0.75 mm. Other showed moderate or little activity. Methanol crude extract showed highest activity against fungus Candida albicans with a zone of inhibition 13.13±1.75mm. Lowest minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values were observed in n-hexane fraction against Shigella dysenteriae and Staphylococcus aureus and were 0.312 in both cases. Lowest LC50 value 19.02±1.16 of n-hexane fraction indicated the highest toxicity in comparison with the other...

Aim: The aim of this prospective study was to know the variable histopathological changes in the fallopian tube after having ectopic gestation and its correlation with predisposing factors. Materials and Methods: 100 fallopian tubes having ectopic gestation for study group and 25 fallopian tubes received after sterilization operation for control group submitted in department of pathology between Jan. 2007- March 2009 were included. The conventional H&E stained microsections were prepared from specimen for extensive study. The sections were examined histopathologically for various pathological lesions by standard criteria. Results: Acute salpingitis was found in 18% of patients. Chronic salpingitis and follicular salpingitis was seen in 39% of patients, while chronic salpingitis with salpingitis isthmica nodosa was found in only 8% of patients. Vessels were sclerotic in 8% of cases. Calcification was found in 7% cases. No case of tuberculosis and endometriosis was observed in our study group. Conclusion: Pelvic inflammatory disease, Salpingitis isthmica nodosa, Acute and Chronic salpingitis are predisposing factors for ectopic tubal...

It is well known fact that the right drug delivery system is critical to the success of a pharmaceutical product. A novel drug delivery system creates additional patient benefits that will add new competitive advantages for a drug and, thus, conserve or increase revenue. Chewing gum as drug delivery system holds tremendous potential not only in smoking cessation and oral health care arenas but also in other...

Transdermal drug delivery is proving to be superior to the conventional oral delivery of drugs owing to its distinct virtues. But it has got its own limitations as well- inability to transport large molecules, inability to overcome the barrier properties of stratum corneum and many more. Using this route of drug delivery along with novel approaches can help to solve these problems. Formulating the drug in a transfersome is one such approach. Transferosome is an ultradeformable vesicle, elastic in nature which can squeeze itself through a pore which is many times smaller than its size owing to its elasticity. Transferosomes are made up of a phospholipids component along with a surfactant mixture. The ratios of individual surfactants and total amount of surfactants control the flexibility of the vesicle. The uniqueness of this type of drug carrier system lies in the fact that it can accommodate hydrophilic, lipophilic as well as amphiphilic drugs. These drugs find place in different places in the elastic vesicle before they get delivered beneath the...
