The COVID-19 pandemic has created a global health crisis posing an unprecedented public health emergency. The number of deaths and people being infected is increasing daily throughout the globe. This situation is much more severe due to possible devastating situations because of several social and economic factors. Effective management to address this infection is still evolving, and attempts are being made to integrate traditional interventions along with standard of care. Ayurveda and yoga can be proved excellent results in cure of Covid-19. It has also been accepted by ICMR in its latest guidelines; they have showcase importance of Ayurveda and yoga in treatment of covid-19. In view of this, an attempt is made to conglomerate a few important herbs whose chemical constituents must be tested for their anti-viral potential against Covid-19 infection. Many of the ayurvedic herbal preparation proved its worth as an immune booster in treatment of...

Our present study aims at analyzing and comparing the antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and phytochemical property of betel leaves from two different domains of Karnataka that includes the Western Ghats and the Northern region. Initially, the ethanol extracts of all four samples (two from each domain) were prepared and checked for their anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity. As a result, the betel leaf extract from the western region showed good antioxidant activity and a significant anti-inflammatory activity when compared with the standard Gallic acid. In connection to this, the phytochemical content such as Alkaloids, Tannins, Flavonoids, and Phenols showed positive in all four extracts, but the quantification studies showed that the extracts from the Western Ghats had a higher quantity of alkaloids and phenols when compared to the samples from northern regions. These results imply that the presence of functionally important groups depends on the composition of the soil in which they grow in. Hence having good biologically important activity in them can prove beneficial for their role towards formulating a cost-effective...

Now a day’s interest towards natural and has been growing due to the unhealthy consequences of chemicals in the health industry; though, herbal substances possess several quality control and confirm pharmacological action issues. This present study was designed to determine the effects of Salix alba L. methanolic extract (MESAL) for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity in rat models. Further to establish and validate a sensitive, fast and reproducible high performance thin layer chromatographic (HPTLC) method of two biomarker compounds Salicin and Ferulic acid from MESAL. The anti-inflammatory activity was studied by the carrageenan-induced rat paw oedema method while DPPH free radical scavenging ability was utilized to determine the antioxidant activity. Additionally, the separation was performed by HPTLC with quantification of markers (Salicin and Ferulic acid). Among the different combinations of mobile phases used, the best separation was achieved in Toluene: Ethyl acetate: Methanol: Formic Acid (5:3:1:1v/v/v/v). The MESAL exhibited antioxidant activity with a maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) value of 400 µg/ml, and exerted anti-inflammatory activity, wherein 70 % protection...

The present study investigates the anti-parkinsonian activity of various extracts of Justicia gendarussa (JG) leaves in MPTP-induced neurotoxicity mice. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative syndrome belongs to a group of motor symptoms disorders. In PD, brain cells degenerated in some parts of the brain which produce dopamine. JG herb is widely distributed in tropical regions of the world. The various parts of the plant are employed traditionally in the treating of various disorders. The present study was designed with 11 group’s mice with 6 each. Group 1 (control), Group 2 (MPTP 20 mg/kg IP four injections at 2 h intervals), Group 3 (L-dopa), and Group 4 to Group11 were administered with Ethanol, Ethyl acetate, Aqueous and n-hexane extracts for 7 days with dose 200 and 400 mg/kg orally along with MPTP 4 injections on day 1. After 7 days, Neurotransmitters, in vivo antioxidant levels, histopathology observation, and isolation of Phytoconstituents by column and characterization studies were performed. The results of the study showed that significant alterations in neurotransmitter...

Capparis decidua Edgew. (Capparidaceae) is an important medicinal plant widely used in Ayurveda as anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, hepatoprotective, diuretic, digestive, laxative, analgesic and anti-asthmatic. In this study, a sensitive and reliable high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) method has been developed for the quantification of a flavonol quercetin as an important marker in C. decidua stem. Ethyl acetate extract prepared from hydrolyzed alcoholic extract was applied on precoated silica gel G 60F254 plate and the plate was developed using chloroform-methanol-formic acid (9:1:0.6, v/v/v) as the mobile phase. The detection and quantification was carried out by densitometric scanning at 366 nm. The system was found to provide good resolution of quercetin from other constituents present in C. decidua stem. The method was validated for linearity, inter-day and intra-day precision, repeatability, accuracy, specificity, limit of detection and limit of quantification. The linear regression analysis data for the calibration plots showed a good linear relationship (r2 = 0.995) in the concentration range of 500-1500 ng. The accuracy of the method was confirmed from recovery studies...
