Context: Ziziphus mistol (mistol) fruits and their derivate product (arrope) have been traditionally used as food and in folk medicine for the treatment of a wide variety of diseases including bronchopulmonary disorder. Objective: The objective of this study is to evaluate the antitussive and expectorant effects of Z. mistol ethanol extract (EE), aqueous extract (AE) and arrope (Ar). Materials and Methods: The antitussive activity was evaluated using two models against ammonia and citric acid induced cough in rats. The expectorant activity was evaluated by volume of phenol red secretion in rats’ tracheas. The tested doses of extracts were of 250, 500 and 1000 mg/kg, (p.o.). Results: The aqueous extract and arrope showed the highest activity in all tested models. The arrope, at 1000 mg / kg, proved to be more effective with inhibitions of 79.69% and 93.75% in the number of coughs induced by ammonium liqueur and citric acid, respectively, while it was similar to codeine. NF-κB (nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells) is a protein complex that controls transcription of DNA, cytokine production and cell survival. Incorrect regulation of NF-κB has been linked to cancer, inflammatory and autoimmune diseases and improper immune development. Aging is among the phenomena more commonly discussed in world health in recent years. Disability is a good indicator to measure health status in the aging population. Accordingly, the primary objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of disability and its relationship with demographic characteristics of the elderly in Zahedan city in Iran in 2016. This is a cross-sectional descriptive-analytic study. Using two-stage random sampling, 400 seniors were selected in Zahedan and were studied. A researcher made questionnaire was used to collect demographic information and disability study instruments included WHODAS – 36 items without time code. Collected data were analyzed using the SPSS version 16 software using the chi-square test. Of 400, 218 individuals were female and182ones were male and the mean age of the participant’s was 73.21 ± 6.82 years old. The overall prevalence of disability among the elderly in Zahedan was 62.3%. Murrels are very often affected by Epizootic Ulcerative Syndrome (EUS) and it causes huge loss to the capture and culture sector. The principal infectious agent of this infestation is a fungal species, Aphanomyces invadans. Different fungal species were isolated from EUS infected Channa punctatus fish from Hasanparthy Lake of Warangal, Telangana, India. Aspergillus flavus, Fusarium solani, Rhizophus stolenifer, Aspergillus fumigatus, Penicillium chrysogenum, Aspergillus niger and Trichoderma viridae were most isolated groups. Isolates have been obtained and ability to induce dermal lesions in infectivity studies make fungi is one of the likely primary aetiological agents that could be triggering the initiation to EUS.
