Background: The coronoid process of mandible is thin flat triangular process from the ramus of the mandible. This varies in the shapes and size. It gives attachment to two main muscles that is temporalis and masseter muscle. The coronoid process is the favourable donor site. A Coronoid process graft can be used for alveolar defects repair, orbital floor repair, maxillary augmentation, repair of non-union fracture of mandible. These grafts can be widely used in the reconstruction of osseous defects in oral and maxilla-facial region. Aim of the Study: This study is done to find out the variation in shape of coronoid process of mandible, Intercoronoid distance, coronoid- condylar distance and the length and breadth and thickness of the coronoid process of mandible. Methods: The study was done on the 100 dry human mandibles from the osteology bank of Saveetha medical college and hospital. The distance was measured using the digital vernier callipers and the values were analysed. Results: This study is useful for the maxillofacial surgeon and this useful...

Periodontal dressings were widely used after flap surgery to protect the surgical site since long. This study compared polyether urethane dimethacrylate resin based Barricaid dressing and non-eugenol based periodontal dressings in the perspective of pain, esthetics and patient acceptance using a randomized split-mouth study design. Fifteen patients coming to the Department of Periodontics at ITS Dental College and diagnosed as a case of generalized chronic periodontitis were selected. Total 30sites (2 sites in each patient) requiring the flap surgery were selected and contralateral sites in each patient were randomly allocated into two groups. At baseline plaque index, Modified gingival index were recorded. In group-1 non-eugenol dressing and in group-II light cured periodontal dressing were applied to secure the surgical sites after flap surgery. At day1,2 and 3 pain and discomort was assessed using Numeric Pain Rating Scale.(NPRS) After 7 days patients were recalled for removal of dressing, recording the indices and asked to fill a questionarrie regarding the patient acceptability. Collected data were subjected to statistical analysis and non-significant...

Many antifungal drugs are used topically in order to treat fungal diseases. Among them Ketoconazole is used widely among these topical antifungal drugs for eradication of dandruff. Scalp with dandruff causes more hair fall than normal scalp and hair fall is treated by topical Minoxidil formulation. Aim of present work is to prepare a topical formulation containing both ketoconazole and minoxidil in order to treat dandruff and associated diffused alopecia simultaneously. Both the drugs are incorporated in emulgel at a particular step in order to prepare formulation. Emulgel i.e. emulsion in gel have been emerged out as one of the most beneficial topical drug delivery system as it contain both hydrophilic and lipophilic drugs with dual controlled release system i.e. emulsion and gel. Incorporation of emulsion in gel also increases the stability of emulsion. Emulgel was prepared by using carbopol 934 as gelling agent. The influence of concentration of gelling agent and emulsifying agent on the drug release from the prepared emulgel was investigated using a 2×22 factorial design....

Flouroquinolones (FQ) used commonly for treatment of community and hospital-acquired infections, has been prefixed with multiple adverse effects. Amongst them the glycemic variability has been attention seeking. Drug induced dysglycemia can be acute or persistent and severe too. The present study is designed to evaluate and compare the actions of Levofloxacin vs. Norfloxacin in altering blood glucose levels in Alloxan induced diabetic albino rats. 30 albino rats with fasting blood sugar (FBS) in the range of 80-115 mg/dl were induced diabetes with intraperitoneal Alloxan (150mg/kg body wt). After 7 days of induction, the rats that developed a stable hyperglycemia with FBS≥250 mg/dl were selected for the study. Following administration of test and standard drug FBS levels were measured on days 0, 3, 7, 14 & 28 using glucometer. Statistically, values in all the groups were analyzed by using one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by independent T test for group comparisons. P values less than 5% (0.05) was considered as significant. Glycemic variation was found to be statistically significant...

Background-In September 2012, the world health organization reported a global prevalence of diabetes exceeding 300 million people, predicting a further 60-70% increase by the year 2030, which means India alone will have 100 million people by year 2030. Wound healing is problematic in diabetic patients. Encouraging results have shown that PDGF application is better than good wound care alone. But the evidence to demonstrate the safety and efficacy of PDGF in Diabetic ulcer is scanty. Aim-To Study the Efficacy of Platelet Derived Growth Factor in Diabetic Lower Extremity Ulcer. Methods-This study was a prospective, double blind, and placebo controlled study. A total of 29 patients with 35 ulcers were included and divided in case and control group. The study medication was administered in conjunction with standardized good wound care for 24 weeks or until target ulcer healed. Results-It was found that 74.2% of ulcers were neuropathic while 48.3% patients had foot deformity in this study. At the end of 24 weeks 100% ulcers in group receiving PDGF completely healed...
