Aim and Objective: evaluate the pattern of drug prescription in patients admitted in surgery wards of a tertiary care teaching hospital. Materials and Method: A prospective cross section observational study was conducted over a period of 6-months from January 2021 to June 2021 in surgical ward at tertiary care teaching hospital in Maharashtra. Patients above 18 years and receiving medical treatment pre- and post-surgery were included in the study. Data analyzed by using the WHO core prescription indicators. Results: 600 patients with surgical operations were included in the study. The mean duration of hospital stay is 10 days. The patients between the ages of 40-65 years constituted the higher number with a mean age of 50.81 years. There was male preponderance 58.17%. The major diagnostic condition were observed in the surgical ward was skin and soft tissue infections (35.17%) followed by Appendicitis (16.67%), Hernia (16.17%) and Diabetic foot ulcer (11.67%). The average number of drugs per prescription was 6.08. Antibiotics, analgesics, Proton Pump Inhibitors and intravenous fluids accounted for...

This dissertation investigates the clinicopathological characteristics of patients presenting with cervical lymphadenopathy in a tertiary care teaching hospital, with the goal of establishing a comprehensive diagnostic and management framework for this prevalent condition. The study analyzed a cohort of 150 patients, revealing that infectious etiologies accounted for 62% of cases, predominantly due to tuberculosis, followed by malignant causes at 28%, primarily lymphomas. Key demographic insights indicated a higher prevalence in patients aged 15 to 45 years, with a notable male predominance. Histopathological evaluations underscored the importance of fine-needle aspiration cytology in guiding management decisions, as 78% of malignant cases were accurately diagnosed through this method. The significance of these findings lies in their potential to refine clinical protocols and enhance diagnostic accuracy, thereby improving patient outcomes and reducing unnecessary interventions. Furthermore, this study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by addressing the clinical burden of cervical lymphadenopathy in developing regions, highlighting the need for targeted healthcare policies and education. The findings advocate for the integration of these insights...

Introduction: Deprescribing is an essential pillar in rational prescribing with literature citing a reduction in the number of drugs consumed, mortality and reducing referrals requiring emergency care by more than half, while also slashing healthcare cost. Deprescribing is a developing field with a steep learning curve due to prevalence of multiple prescribing sources (Ayurveda) and there is no consensus on how to exploit different approaches. Thus, the current prescribing pattern remains heavily influenced by the medical practitioner bias. Advantages of reducing polypharmacy have been well established by literature in the past few decades; more efficacious studies including randomized clinical trials need to be conducted to determine the effectiveness of deprescribing in the Indian clinical scenario. Aims and Objectives: This study is conducted to assess the prevalence of deprescription in India. Material and Methods: A validated instrument ‘Perceptions, Attitudes and Challenges of Physicians towards Deprescribing’ was used for this study. An electronic 20-question survey regarding the prevalence of deprescription was administered to doctors who prescribed on a daily basis in...

Overexpression of Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) in cancers promotes tumor by degrading the barrier of extracellular matrix and angiogenesis. MMP-9 plays a major role in the progression of cancers by enhancing migration, cell survival, angiogenesis, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition, immune response induction, and tumor microenvironment formation thus, it is considered as a lead drug target to treat cancer. NSAIDs or Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs have been widely investigated for their effectiveness in different cancer types but promising candidates for clinical use are still halfway. The present study aims to investigate a combination of NSAIDs that can convey high-potential structural inhibition against MMP-9 utilizing a molecular docking-based in-silico approach. A thorough literature survey followed by ADMET analysis provided the best NSAID candidates covering diverse chemical space for the analysis. Molecular docking of NSAIDs with MMP-9 individually proved oxaprozin and piroxicam as best candidates for structural inhibition of MMP-9. Combination docking gave a high binding energy of -12.98 kcal/mol for the synergistic inhibitory effect of oxaprozin and piroxicam against MMP-9. Thus, further in-vitro analysis can...

Objective: The purpose of this study was to compare the impact of various drying methods, such as sun drying, Sunshade drying, hot air oven drying, and Deep freeze-drying technologies, on the elucidation of sensory and nutritional profiles in Sauropus androgynous leaves. Methods: Fresh Sauropus androgynous leaves were used for various drying techniques, such as Sunshade, sun drying, hot air oven, and Deep freeze drying. The leaves were analyzed for changes in nutritional composition, mineral composition, and vitamin concentration. The study involved various drying analysis methods based on the AOAC protocols to evaluate their impact on the leaves’ nutritional and medicinal properties. Results: Sun-dried leaves retained a higher proportion of essential nutrients compared to those dried in a sun shade, hot air oven, or Deep freeze method. The sensory evaluation demonstrated that sun-dried leaves were preferred in color, taste, antioxidants, and overall acceptability compared to leaves dried in a hot air oven. Conclusion: Sun drying is the best technique for maintaining the sensory qualities, nutritional value, and antioxidants of Sauropus...
