The present work focused on preparing ethanolic extract of Petunia hybrida and evaluating its anti-diabetic potential in rats. The extraction of flowers was carried out using ethanol and the extraction yield was found to be 21.7% w/w. The total phenolic content of ethanolic extract of Petunia hybrida was found to be 39.18±1.46 GAE mg/g. The antidiabetic action of the extract was evaluated in terms of the effect of extract on body weight and serum glucose level. Other parameters like cholesterol and serum urea were also evaluated. The results revealed that the serum glucose levels were highly elevated by the administration of STZ in all the groups by day 7. In treatment groups III to V, the glucose levels dropped in comparison to group II and by the day 21, the levels reached almost the level of control group in group III and V. This indicates that the extract exhibits significant glucose lowering potential. Both SGOT and SGPT enzyme levels get elevated during liver damage which is more in diabetic...

Introduction: Infections due to methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) are increasing worldwide. Vancomycin is considered as the drug of choice to treat serious infections caused by MRSA strains. The emergence of S. aureus isolates with intermediate and complete resistance to vancomycin in the past two decades is a major public health concern. Aim and Objectives: To determine the MIC of vancomycin in MRSA isolates from various clinical specimens and to observe the occurrence of VRSA and VISA. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted between November 2020 to October 2021 in the department of Microbiology, RMCH, Bareilly. S. aureus isolates were identified using routine identification methods. MRSA isolates were subjected to E-test for detection of MIC of vancomycin through vancomycin Ezy MIC Strips (Hi Media Range .016-256μg/ml). Results: A total of 180 S. aureus strains were isolated during the study period. Out of these strains 100 (55.55%) MRSA and 80 (44.45%) MSSA were isolated. Out of 100 MRSA strains 8 strains showed vancomycin MIC of 0.75 μg/ml, 50 strains...

The majority of novel chemical entities getting discovered are having low water solubility and it must be addressed to distribute the drug more effectively. SMEDDS, a lipid-based drug delivery approach, is thought to boost oral absorption of less hydrophilic drugs. Surfactants are the major excipients used in SMEDDS as they are responsible for the emulsification process. The two main criteria while choosing a surfactant should be HLB and safety. A high emulsifying property is what the emulsifier employed in SMEDDS formulation is ought to have. The high hydrophilicity and HLB value of a surfactant guarantees instant oil-in-water droplet production and fast dispersion of formulation in aqueous fluids. The most frequently advised and preferred surfactant type used in SMEDDS are non-ionic surfactants with a rather high HLB value. A high concentration of surfactant is required for a stable self – micro-emulsifying drug delivery systems and they usually contain surfactant concentrations in the range of 30% to 60% w/w. Surfactants that are suitable for use in pharmaceuticals include kolliphor RH40, Cremophor® RH40,...

Sulfadiazine belongs to a class of sulphonamide antibiotics. Sulfadiazine is a synthetic bacteriostatic sulphonamide that exhibits a broad spectrum of activity against gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens. The Sulfadiazine antibiotic is a member of the Sulfa drugs class. This drug is utilized for bacterial infections in the brain, ears, and urinary tract. The primary goal of the research is to develop and validate Sulfadiazine by Reverse Phase (RP) HPLC. An HPLC (Alliance, Water 2695) with a PDA detector and Avantor -ACE C18 250 mm × 4.6 mm × 5 µm column (Part Number ACE 121-2546) was used. A novel technique for the simultaneous measurement of sulfadiazine using the RP-HPLC technology was developed. The ACE C18 column (250×4.6 mm) 5µm successfully created the chromatographic conditions needed to separate sulfadiazine. The flow rate was 1 mL/min, and the mobile phase ratio of ACN: H2O was 70:30 v/v. 254 nm was the detection...

Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) is a chronic liver disease characterized by immune system dysfunction, elevated gamma globulins, and specific auto antibodies. It arises from genetic predisposition, environmental triggers, and immune dysregulation, and is typically managed with immunosuppressive therapy. The research highlights AIH risks, including disease recurrence and complications from vaccinations like COVID-19 and Hepatitis A, underscoring the need for tailored management and ongoing patient monitoring. We present a rare case of AIH in an adult male with delayed diagnosis. Initially, he experienced jaundice at 14 and managed it with alternative medicine. At 32, he was diagnosed with jaundice, liver dysfunction, and portal hypertension, which progressed despite treatment. By 34, he was diagnosed with decompensated chronic liver disease related to AIH at a government tertiary care hospital. The study explores novel diagnostic approaches, such as neuro-fuzzy cognitive maps, serum biomarkers like GDF15, and gene expression profiling to improve early detection. It also discusses emerging therapeutic strategies, including cytokine modulation and immunoproteasome inhibition, to optimize treatment outcomes. With further research, these methods...
