Excitotoxicity refers to the pathological process by which nerve cells are damaged & killed by glutamate or related excitatory amino acid under conditions such as after intense exposure. This occurs when receptor for the excitatory neurotransmitter such as N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) or AMPA are over activated. Such excitotoxic neuronal death may take part in the pathogenesis of brain or spinal cord injury associated with several human disease states. Various mechanisms involving excitotoxicity have been proposed to explain the neuronal cell death characteristic of neurodegenerative diseases, including elevation of intracellular calcium, accumulation of oxidizing free radicals, impairment of mitochondrial function and activation of apoptotic...

The present study was undertaken to evaluate the wound healing activity of leaf extract of Dodonaea viscosa Jacq in diabetic wistar albino rats. Wound is defined as a loss or breaking of cellular and anatomic or functional continuity of living tissue. Normal wound healing response begins the moment the tissue is injured. Wound healing is the process of repair that follows injury to the skin and other soft tissues. For the study, various excision, incision and granuloma pouch models were used. In each model, animals were divided into three groups (n=6). Group I was control group, Group II was treated with silver sulfadiazine and Group III was treated with ointment of Dodonaea viscosa. In excision wound model, the significant (p<0.001) increase in rate of wound contraction was observed. Also, there was increase in rate of reepithelization, matrix density and capillary number. The collagen content was found to increase as compared to control. In incision wound model it was found that there was increase in tensile strength. Cotton pellet model...

Statistical analysis was carried out using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS), version 16.0. Participants’ written informed consent to participate in the study was obtained after explaining about the purpose and procedure of the study. Results: Out of 97 pharmacy professionals included in the study, 59 (60.8%) were satisfied and 38(39.2%) were dissatisfied in their job. The major reasons reported for satisfaction were helping the needy 28(28.9%) and professional gratification 23 (23.7%).The major...

A pilot study was conducted to understand the study habits of the post-graduation (PG) pharmacy students’ in India and their perspective on the use of a Learning Management System (LMS) in line with the current system of education to meet the industrial requirements in Indian scenario. The researchers administered of an open labeled, questionnaire to understand students’ study pattern, expectations from the use of a LMS to support their PG goals. Consents were taken from the students to use the data provided for deriving inferences for research purposes. Data was collected from all the students belonging to two premier private colleges in Bangalore, India and converted to graphical representations using Microsoft excel to provide simple percentages. The current trend in pharmacy education system shows that the PG students study/learn mostly during the internal and external examinations. This is a due to the pressure of doing well in the examination. This study also showed that the students study mostly from discussions, seminars and examinations. It was observed that the students...

A survey of green synthesis of thiazines and oxazines revealed the moiety have attracted a great deal of interest of medicinal chemist, biochemist, pharmacologist and rendered as a lead molecule for designing potential bioactive agents. This review accompanying supplementary green synthetic information & its references would extend great deal of help to researchers in determining the best and most productive, economical, suggestive and clinically important compound of thiazine and oxazine derivatives which will be expected to show potent pharmacological activities. This has led to the discovery of a wide variety of compounds that are of high interest from the point of view antimicrobial, antimycobacterial, antidiabetic and antidepressant effects among...
