Background: Self-medication is a common practice among medical students due to their exposure to pharmacological knowledge and easy access to drugs. This reflects a gap between knowledge and behavior driven by perceived convenience and confidence in their medical knowledge. Objectives: To assess the knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP) of self-medication among undergraduate medical students using a structured questionnaire. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a pre-validated questionnaire on 150 medical students. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Chi-square tests to identify trends and associations between demographic variables and self-medication practices. Results: 78% of the students reported practicing self-medication. Most had adequate knowledge but showed casual attitudes. Common drugs used included antipyretics, analgesics, antacids, and antibiotics. 46% were unaware of the potential dangers of self-medication, such as adverse drug reactions and antibiotic resistance. Conclusion: Educational strategies must be implemented to promote rational and responsible drug use among medical...

Hippophae rhamnoides subsp. turkestanica Rousi. (seabuckthorn), a multipurpose plant growing in the cold desert of the Union Territory of Ladakh, India. The plant samples were collected from Skurbuchan, located at 34° 26′ 07″ N and 76° 42′ 38″ E, along the Indus River bank in the Union Territory of Ladakh, India. The samples are shade-dried. The microscopic observations are examined under different magnifications. The physicochemical properties, such as LoD, ash value, water and alcohol soluble extractive value, and acid insoluble ash, as prescribed in the Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia of India have also been calculated. The T.S. of fruit pulp reveals a pericarp with an inner endocarp, middle mesocarp, and outer epicarp. The mesocarp contains parenchyma cells with orange material, while the epicarp consists of elongated epidermal cells. The pericarp also has oil droplets and vascular bundles. The seed test a has a hypodermal layer of thick-walled sclereids, followed by a thick endosperm and cotyledon epidermis layer. The powder microscopy also supports the features. Physicochemical analysis shows values recorded in %w/w. The fruit pulp...

Grangea maderaspatana, commonly known as Madras carpet / Indian chickweed and belonging to the Asteraceae family. This plant is widely distributed throughout the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and Africa and traditionally employed in the management of respiratory, gastrointestinal and dermatological disorders. Grangea maderaspatana plant has also demonstrated potential anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antimicrobial activities. This study investigates the chemical composition of the petroleum ether extract of aerial part of Grangea maderaspatana using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). The plant, known for its traditional medicinal uses, was subjected to Soxhlet extraction and the extract was analyzed to identify its phytochemical components. The analysis revealed a complex mixture of hydrocarbons, fatty acids, terpenes and other organic compounds with tetracontane (45.20% area at different retention time), n-hexadecanoic acid (7.05%area), (S,Z)-heptadeca-1,9-dien-4,6-diyn-3-ol (6.18% area at different R. Time) and neophytadiene (5.08%area) being the major components. The presence of these compounds suggests potential applications in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and other industries due to their bioactive...

Background: The study assesses lifestyle management of CAD in a tertiary care center, focusing on patients demographics and quality of life (QOL) among hypertensive female patients. Materials and Methods: This descriptive and interventional study was conducted. A total of 140 hypertensive women were selected using simple random sampling. Inclusion criteria included female patients with a documented history of hypertension. Participants were divided into two groups: an intervention group receiving lifestyle and dietary counseling and a control group receiving routine care. Results: The demographic analysis revealed that the majority of participants were married (92.86%), with 29.29% being illiterate and 27.14% having secondary-level education. Most participants were housewives (27.14%) or self-employed (23.57%). A family history of hypertension was present in 60.71% of cases. WHOQOL-BREF scores indicated moderate perceived quality of life, with the highest mean score in the physical domain (53.32%), followed by psychological (50.47%), social (49.15%), and environmental (49.15%) domains. Overall quality of life was reported at 51.63%. Multivariate analysis showed significant associations between education level (p < 0.001), occupation...

Alzheimer’s disease (AD), a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, is characterized by cognitive decline and memory impairment, often associated with oxidative stress, amyloid plaque accumulation, and neuroinflammation. In the quest for alternative therapeutic strategies, nanotechnology combined with phytochemistry offers a promising avenue. This study investigates the synthesis, characterization, and neuroprotective potential of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) synthesized using the aqueous leaf extract of Averrhoa carambola – a plant known for its antioxidant and medicinal properties. The green synthesis approach yielded stable, bio-functionalized AgNPs, as confirmed through UV–Vis spectroscopy, FTIR, SEM, and TEM analyses. In-vitro antioxidant assays demonstrated significant free radical scavenging activity of the synthesized nanoparticles. Furthermore, in-vivo experiments using an Alzheimer’s-induced murine model revealed that treatment with A. carambola-derived AgNPs improved cognitive performance, reduced oxidative biomarkers, and attenuated acetyl cholinesterase activity in the brain. Histopathological assessments also indicated a reduction in amyloid deposition and neuronal degeneration. These findings suggest that bioengineered AgNPs from Averrhoa carambola may serve as a novel, biocompatible nootropic agent with therapeutic potential in mitigating the pathophysiology of...
