Pain is the most common reason for physician consultation. Among the currently available analgesic drugs, opioids are the most efficacious but have many unacceptable adverse effects. Melatonin has been found to have antinociceptive potential in many animal and clinical studies that need further evaluation. The study aimed to assess the antinociceptive effect of melatonin alone and in combination with pethidine. Twenty Swiss albino mice were divided into four groups, each containing five animals receiving respective drugs. Tail flick and tail clip methods were used to assess antinociceptive effect of the drug. The reaction time of each animal in each group was taken at 0 min, 30 min, 60 min, 90 min and 120 min and the experiment was conducted on day 0, day 7, day 14 and day 28. Mean reaction time averaged over day 0, day 7, day 14 and day 28 was used to make inter-group comparisons. The mean reaction time increased in all groups except group I, in both tail flick and tail clip methods suggesting...

Background and Aim: The prevalence of DM worldwide is estimated to be 415 million, which is anticipated to surpass 642 million in the next 25 years. Good glycaemic control reduces the incidence of complications associated with diabetes and thus improves microvascular diseases. Complexity can be regarded as the root cause of low adherence and thus result in interactions. This study aimed to evaluate the complexity of medication regimens in patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus and its impact on medication adherence and glycaemic control. Methodology: A hospital-based cross-sectional study was conducted on 265 patients with diabetes in NIMS Medicity, Kerala, for 6 months, and the association between predictive and outcome variables was analyzed. Results: The final analysis included 265 diabetic patients who met the inclusion criteria. Around 66.03% of patients showed a high level of patient-specific MRCI, while 3% had high diabetes-specific MRCI. Almost 26.4% of patients showed high compliance with diabetic medications. Most patients included in the study (66%) showed poor glycemic control. The patients with severe patient-specific MRCI...

A simple, accurate, and precise dual-wavelength spectrophotometric method was developed to determine Paracetamol and Piroxicam in combined pharmaceutical dosage form simultaneously. The principle for the dual wavelength method is “the absorbance difference between two points on the mixture spectra is directly proportional to the concentration of the component of interest”. The pre‐requisite for the dual wavelength method is the selection of two such wavelengths where the interfering component shows the same absorbance. In contrast, the component of interest shows a significant difference in absorbance with concentration. The wavelengths selected for paracetamol were 257nm, whereas the wavelengths selected for the determination of Piroxicam were 353nm. 0.5M NaOH was taken as a solvent. The regression analysis of Beer’s plots showed good correlation in a concentration range of 2‐10 μg/ml for paracetamol and 2‐10 μg/ml for Piroxicam. The accuracy method was found to be between 97.33‐101.5%. The method’s precision (intra‐day, inter‐day, and repeatability) was found within limits. The proposed method was successfully applied to determine these drugs in commercial...

Background: The current study assessed the effect of an Antineoplastic-loaded transdermal patch in Dimethyl-benzanthracene (DMBA)-induced breast cancer. Materials and Methods: Different formulations composed of various concentrations of tamoxifen citrate, poly (SA: RA), glucose, and mannitol were formulated and evaluated in DMBA-induced breast cancer in female albino Wistar rats. Multiple parameters were evaluated, such as body weight, hemoglobin content, red blood cell, white blood cell, SGPT, and SGOT. Results: Treatment with formulations showed a decrease in body weight compared to disease. Equally, a considerable increase in hemoglobin was observed in the formulation-treated group over the disease grouping. Likewise, there is a decrease in SGPT and SGOT in formulation compared to disease. Conclusion: The present study revealed a transdermal patch loaded with tamoxifen showed promising antitumor...

Mercury is the more risky heavy metal for human health because of its ability to kill human nerve cells and its exposure to the environment through human activities, which implicate sewage drainage, agriculture, municipal, mining, incineration, and drainage of industrial wastewater. Mercury and its compounds cause toxic action in the body by several mechanisms, which mainly cause the nervous system through their molecular and cellular effects. The present research intended to investigate the ameliorative potential of betulinic acid and rotundic acid against mercuric chloride (HgCl2) (1.29 mg/kg b. w.) induced neurotoxicity in adult male rats. The examination was implemented in male albino Wistar rats (n = 36). Which was partitioned into six gatherings as follows: Control, HgCl2, HgCl2 + betulinic acid, HgCl2 + rotundic acid, betulinic acid alone, and rotundic acid alone. The results revealed that intense HgCl2 regulation modified different biochemical specifications incorporated with the high volume of lipid peroxidation (LPO) portion and a significantly depleted level of reduced glutathione (GSH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione...
