Background: The Gonadal Arteries most commonly arise from the abdominal aorta at the level of the second lumbar (L2) vertebra, supplying the testes and ovaries. The gonadal arteries variations are commonly seen in males on right side however there are few instances where there is variation in ovarian arteries seen in females which could be of importance. Aim of the Study: To re-evaluate the origin and courses of gonadal arteries in human cadavers and explain the developmental anatomy and its clinical significance. Materials and Methods: During routine educational dissection of 24 cadavers in the Department of Anatomy, K.A.P.V. Government Medical College, Trichy, the origin and course of gonadal arteries were observed. I found the variants in 2 female cadavers aged over 60 years. Results: The present study showed variation in the origin of ovarian arteries in 2 female cadavers (8.33%) out of 24 cadavers. I observed, a rare anatomical variant of left ovarian arteries were found, originating from the left accessory renal arteries, just below and behind the left...

Dyslipidemia is a known risk factor for Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Diseases (ASCVD). Statins are first choice drug for the treatment of dyslipidemia. The FDA advises a low starting dose of rosuvastatin at 5 mg/day in Asians. The present study is a randomized, open labelled study done at Victoria Hospital, Bangalore to compare the efficacy and safety of rosuvastatin 5mg versus atorvastatin 20mg in patients with dyslipidemia. A total of 60 treatment naïve adult patients with dyslipidemia were randomized into two arms of 30 each in 1:1 ratio to receive either rosuvastatin 5mg or atorvastatin 20mg. Lipid profiles at baseline and at 6th week follow-up visit was recorded. Efficacy was assessed by mean change in lipid parameters at the end of 6 weeks and safety by recording the number and severity of adverse events reported by the patient at any time during the study. Among the 60 patients the mean difference at 6th week from baseline for Total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and Triglyceride for the rosuvastatin and atorvastatin group were (mg/dl)...

We present the case of a 25-year-old unmarried male driver diagnosed with recurrent genital herpes (RGH) and genital warts, associated with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM). The patient reported a history of unprotected sexual intercourse with a commercial sex worker (CSW) four months prior. He developed multiple painful genital erosions and verrucous growths on the penile shaft. Laboratory investigations confirmed HSV-2 and HPV infection. The patient was treated with oral acyclovir 800 mg four times daily for 7 days for RGH and topical imiquimod 5% cream thrice weekly for genital warts. The treatment resulted in complete resolution of symptoms without recurrence. This case highlights the importance of early diagnosis, targeted therapy, and preventive counseling in managing STIs, especially in immunocompromised individuals like diabetic patients. Additionally, it underscores the need for safe sexual practices, routine STI screening, and HPV vaccination to reduce disease burden and complications in high-risk...

Anaemia is a widespread problem that can be characterized by a decreased number of red blood cells and decreased haemoglobin levels. The aim of this study was to explore the antianaemic efficacy of mahua flower concentrate and mahua laddoo in comparison to the clinically prescribed iron tablet, Livogen XT, in an anaemic rat model. The anaemic rat model was developed by the administration of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine. The antianaemic effects of mahua flower concentrate and mahua laddoo were evaluated by quantifying haematological limits, including haemoglobin contents, red blood cell count, and haematocrit. Additionally, proximate analysis was performed for the mahua flower concentrate and mahua laddoo. The proximate content of mahua concentrate and mahua laddoo exhibited good equilibrium of macronutrients, including carbohydrates and proteins, along with fat content, which contributes to their energy-providing properties. Orally, mahua concentrate and mahua laddoo were administered for a period of 23 days. The results revealed a significant increase in the haematological parameters in the treated groups compared with those in the negative control group. The use...

Prediabetes, a transitional metabolic state preceding type 2 diabetes, is characterized by insulin resistance, moderate hyperglycaemia, dyslipidaemia, and oxidative stress. This study evaluates the preventive effects of aqueous extracts from the leaves, calyces, and seeds of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. (white variety) on glucose and lipid metabolism disorders induced by a high-calorie diet in Wistar rats. Eight groups of six male Wistar rats were fed for 12 weeks with either a standard diet, a high-calorie diet, or a high-calorie diet combined with two doses (100 or 200 mg/kg) of the plant extracts. The leaf and calyx extracts significantly reduced weight gain, BMI, blood glucose, insulin levels, HOMA-IR, and HOMA-B indices (p < 0,05), showing no significant differences compared to the standard diet group (p > 0,05). Postprandial blood glucose levels also approached those of the standard group. These extracts significantly lowered triglycerides, total cholesterol, and atherogenic indices (TG/HDL-C, CRI, AIP) (p < 0.05), while the reduction in HDL cholesterol remained non-significant (p > 0,05). In contrast, untreated high-calorie diet rats...
