Atenolol is a hypertension drug that has a low solubility characteristic in water and gastric fluid. The rate of absorption of the drug with poor solubility characteristics is determined by the dissolution process. In this study, an attempt has been conducted to increase the dissolution of atenolol by increasing its solubility. The solubility of atenolol has been enhanced by the inclusion complex using β-cyclodextrin made by several methods (physical mixing, kneading, and solvent evaporation). Evaluation and characterization of atenolol-β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex consist of drug content, dissolution test, Fourier Transformed Infrared analysis (FT-IR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), X-ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The results of the drug content analysis, dissolution test, and characterization showed that atenolol- β-cyclodextrin inclusion complex, which has been made by the solvent evaporation method was the best approach. Therefore, a solvent evaporation method was chosen to formulate orally disintegrating tablets of atenolol-β-cyclodextrin using direct compression technique. Orally disintegrating tablets of atenolol-β-cyclodextrin were prepared using crospovidone as disintegrant. The results of pre-compression test and...

Ayurveda is the holistic approach towards life, health, disease management through medicinal herbs minerals, diet and lifestyle leads to the great need for standardization of herbal medicine to maintain its safety and efficacy. Mukta bhasma is used in the treatment of bone metabolic disorders associated with calcium deficiency. It was prepared by Shodhana, Marana and Sharava samputa and the Standardization of bhasma are very necessary to confirm its identity and to determine its quality and purity. An attempt has been made to summarize the ancient and the advanced methods available for the standardization of bhasma. The dosage uniformity and patient compliance can be increased and adulteration can be decreased in ayurvedic powders by formulating them into tablets. The aim of the present work is to develop and evaluate Mukta Bhasma tablets using starch and acacia as a binder. The granules were prepared by the wet granulation method. The prepared tablets were evaluated for different parameters, acute toxicity of Mukta bhasma was conducted on albino rats. Mukta bhasma was administered...

Objectives: To find out different qualitative and quantitative phytochemical properties, it’s in-vitro antioxidant properties and peroxidase activity of Brassica juncea var. Rugosa (record tro- 50197928) with fresh and sequential solvent extracts. Methods: The leaf sample of Brassica juncea var. rugosa was collected from Manipur and the sample was dried. The dried powder was extracted using Soxhlet with the sequential solvent of non-polar to polar. Preliminary phytochemical analysis for proteins, carbohydrates, phenols, alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, steroids, terpenoids, and quantitative estimation for total proteins, carbohydrates, alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, and tannins. In-vitro, antioxidant activity was analyzed by using DPPH assay. Peroxidase activity was also checked. Results: The plant extracts showed the presence of a considerable amount of total alkaloids, total phenols, total flavonoids, total tannins, total proteins, total carbohydrates. The plant extracts also showed high antioxidant and peroxidase activity. Conclusions: From the study, we can conclude that the plant Brassica juncea var. rugosa has many important secondary metabolites and it has a potential for strong...

Plants have served as a source of new pharmaceutical products and inexpensive starting materials for the synthesis of some known drugs. Components with medicinal properties from plants play an important role in conventional Western medicine. In the ethnopharmacological approach, local knowledge about the potential uses of the plants is very useful as compared to the random approach where indigenous knowledge is not taken into consideration. In the present study, the polar (hydro-alcoholic, aqueous, methanolic and ethanolic) extracts and non-polar extracts (hexane, chloroform and petroleum ether) of whole plant, Hyptis suaveolens was screened for antimicrobial activity against drug-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus and other pathogenic strains (viz. Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Bacillus cereus, Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans). All the polar extracts of the plant showed significant antimicrobial activity in comparison to non-polar extracts. The studies revealed that the polar extracts are having much significant antimicrobial activity against drug-resistant strains and other pathogenic strains while non-polar extracts are having moderate activity against pathogenic strains while no activity was found against drug-resistant strains....

The object of the paper is the development of anti-acne gel of isotretinoin and evaluated for as potential formulation to treat Acne vulgaris. The isotretinoin based anti-acne gel was prepared by using carbopol 940 polymers and evaluated for solubility, drug interaction, drug release, pH, viscosity and spreadability. In-vitro drug release through Franz diffusion cells, acute skin irritation test and antibacterial test also executed to confirm the potency of the gel formulation. The evaluation test was also compared with marketed formulation Sortet gel. The antibacterial (anti-acne) activity of different formulations was evaluated by the modified agar well diffusion method in the culture of Propionibacterium acne. The optimized formulation ISG-7 has shown the highest spreadability (42.422 g/cm3) with respect to other gel formulations and a high percentage of drug contents (96.42%). In–vitro diffusion study suggested that ISG-2, ISG-3, and ISG-7 have shown more diffusion and drug release from all the formulations that is 82.97%, 79.20% and 83.69% as compared to Sotret gel (86.72%). The antibacterial activity was studied on anaerobic microorganism...
