Increase in complexity and cost associated with pediatric safety and efficacy studies have reduced the interest of pharmaceutical companies to study bio-therapeutics in pediatric population. Dose recommendations are being made as per patient body weight or body surface area, with the assumption of linearity in body size dose adjustments. In the present study, newer approach i.e. flat fixed age-based dosing is explored. Stochastic simulations were performed on once-a-day (OD) and twice-a-day (BD) dosage regimens of a fixed dose combination (FDC) of ceftriaxone/sulbactam (2/1) to identify a promising dose range that can effectively evaluate exposure-response (E-R) relationships of the FDC against bacterial infection in pediatric population. Selected dose range of 60-120 mg/kg of FDC was evaluated against ESBL infection using in-vitro systems (dilution method and hollow fiber method). Effect of dose, dose frequency, severity of infection and age groups were analyzed in age-based subgroups i.e. neonates, infant, child and toddler. Recommended dose for infants, child and toddler were 75-120 mg/kg based on severity of infection. However, physiologically-induced reduction in drug’s...

Plants served as potent sources of bioactive compounds since ages. The understanding of phytochemical constitution of each and every plant on earth is the preliminary and the most important step in drug discovery. As Operculina turpethum(L.) Silva Manso is traditionally used for various ailments, the understanding of phytochemical composition of the plant is very essential. The present study was an attempt to identify the phenolic compounds present in the leaf of the plant O. turpethum. Total phenol and flavonoid content was determined from the methanol extract of the leaf and the extract was subjected to HPLC analysis with seven standard compounds. A gradient mobile phase comprising acetonitrile and 0.1% phosphoric acid was used to get the phenolic profile. The quantity of each compound present in the extract was calculated from the peak area and expressed in mg/ ml of sample injected. The first mobile phase revealed the presence of compounds viz., coumarin, ferulic acid, catechin, salicylic acid, rutin, vanillin and gallic acid. Among the seven identified phenolics, coumarin was...

Honey possesses a wide range of medicinal properties due to presence of phytochemicals including flavonoids and phenolic acids. Free radicals and process of angiogenesis are one of the major contributors to cancer development and the use of phytoconstituents as reactive oxygen species scavengers and as an antiangiogenic moiety has clinical potential and may be having less negative side effects than the existing drugs. This study has explored the phyto-constituents as well as anti-angiogenic and anti-oxidant activity of Indian honey (Kashmir honey and dhanwantari honey) in comparison with manuka honey. The total phenolic content was measured by folin ciocalteau method and antioxidant activity was estimated by DPPH scavenging assay. Anti-angiogenic activity of honey samples were evaluated by chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay. Drabkin’s assay was performed in order to check the hemoglobin content of the chorioallantoic membrane sections. Presence of flavonoids and tannins were observed in all honey samples. Higher total phenolic content was found in kashmir honey (6662.67 mg GAE /100 gm honey) than manuka honey (6078.67 mg GAE /100...

In the present study, a new series of 2, 4, 5- trisubstituted imidazoles derivatives were synthesized taking different aldehydes as substitutions. The preliminary characterization of synthesized compounds identified by physical constants determination and TLC. The chemical structures were confirmed by means of IR, 1H-NMR and Mass spectral data. The synthesized compounds were screened for their anti-microbial and antifungal activity using standard methods. Both gram positive and gram negative organisms such as E.coli, B.subtilis, S.aureus, A. niger, C.albicans were used. The compounds screened for their antibacterial and antifungal activities A1, A2, A4 have shown promising antibacterial and antifungal activity against as compared to standard drugs Ciprofloxacin and Griseofulvin. The compounds were also screened for their antidepressant activities using forced swimming test in mice in which A1, A2 and A6 are found to be most significant while compounds A4 and A5 showed moderate activity as compared to standard drug Fluoxetin. The compound A4, 4-(4, 5-diphenyl-1H-imidazole-2-yl) phenol exhibited excellent...

Herbal medicines are precious and valuable gift of nature. Indian system of medicine viz. Ayurveda is much prevailing in our country, which comprises of various traditional medicines. The practice of medicinal herbs for treating the diseases is very well known from ancient time. Actiniopteris australis (Syn: A. radiata; A. Dichotoma), is a xerophytic species of the fern family Actiniopteridaceae , listed among endangered and fast disappearing plants, found to be little explored with regards to its medicinal uses, reproductive methods and chemical constituents. Major phytoconstituents reported in this plant are hentriacontane, hentriacontanol, β-sitosterol palmitate, β-sitosterol, β-sitosterol-D-glucoside and Quarcetin-3-rutinoside (rutin). This plant has been reported for various biological activities such as antifertility, styptic, anthelmitic, anti-tubercular etc. 50 % Ethanolic extract can be used to develop a safe male contraceptive pill . It is also used as dietary supplement in malnutrition. It has shown to remove heavy metals like Selenium and Arsenic from the rhizosphere by Phytoremediation...
