Hyperlipidemia is a major risk factor for CHD, atherosclerosis and diabetes. Present study has been conducted to evaluate the antioxidant and anti hyperlipidemic activity of Fragaria nubicola. All in-vitro antioxidant activities were concentration dependent, which were compared with standard antioxidants BHT and Vitamin C. At concentration of 700 µg/ml the DPPH radical scavenging activity of methanol extract was more than that of aqueous and ethyl actetate extracts. The highest phenolic content was observed in methanolic extract followed by aqueous and ethyl acetate. Superoxide and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity of extracts increased in dose dependent manner with highest in methanolic extract. To evaluate hyperlipidemic activity, 35 rats weighing 80-100gm were divided into 7 groups with five in each group and were fed with high fat diet for one month. Group I contained normal receiving water only, group II Hyper- lipidemic receiving high fat diet, group III Atorvastatin (10 mg/kg), group IV and group V receiving methanolic extract of 50 and 100 mg/kg, group VI and VII receiving aqueous extract of...

The aim and objective of the present work is to design and develop immediate release tablets of pioglitazone hydrochloride to improve the patient compliance and desired bioavailability by selected delivery system by following immediate release mechanism. In the present investigation, super disintegrants used in the combination of 1:1 ratio were modified using co-processed technology with the solvents like acetone and methanol using solvent evaporation technique. The dissolution rate of the drug was significantly increased which reaches closer to the dissolution profile of marketed product. This was due to an increase in surface area of drug available for dissolution. The physical modification of super-disintegrants using co processing technique and selection of processed material with particle size specificity made the drugs to possess required characteristics as fast dispersible. The pre compression and post compression properties are determined as per the procedure prescribed. The drug release studies and kinetics indicate that the prepared tablets with co-processed superdisintegrants were best at its release in the entire tract of GIT due to their change...

Background: Brachial plexus block provides minimal systemic impairment and excellent localized postoperative analgesia for upper extremity surgery. LA’s such as lignocaine, bupivacaine and ropivacaine are widely used along with adjuvant to improve the quality, onset and duration of block and to decrease postoperative analgesic requirement and systemic side effects. Adjuvant like α-2 agonist (Clonidine), opioids etc. are been added to LA’s. Clonidine is an imidazoline derivative with α-2 adrenergic agonistic activity. There has been seen a potentially clear synergism between clonidine and ropivacaine in various regional block anaesthesia. Material and Methods: In this randomized doubled blind controlled study, a total of 60 ASA grade I or II patients were taken and randomly allocated into 2 groups comprising 30 patients in each group. Group R includes patients which were given 30ml of 0.5% ropivacaine + 2ml normal saline and in Group RC 30 ml of 0.5% ropivacaine with 2 µg/kg clonidine in 2 ml NS. Sensory function was tested using pinprick and motor with concomitant inability to move the wrist...

Flavanoids are plant secondary metabolites, synthesized by microwave assisted synthesis and green chemistry approach since, the conventional method of synthesis uses various organic solvents, hazardous by product, tedious work that requires more reaction time. Flavonoids have general structure of 15-carbon skeleton which consists of two phenyl ring (A and B) and heterocyclic pyran ring(C). Flavones are one of the important class of flavanoids acquires a broad spectrum of activity. Chalcone (1, 3-diaryl-2-propen-1-ones), is a privileged structure, demonstrating promising anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities. The basic moiety of flavanoids gives numerous biological activities henceforth; flavanoid and chalcone derivatives were synthesized and confirmed by physiochemical and spectral data. Biological screening was done for antibacterial especially for anti-methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus and antifungal screening with using standard drug Ofloxacin and Griseofulvin respectively. Compound NKP-3, NKP-4, NKP-8a, NKP- 9a and NKP-10a are more active and other compounds are less active against bacteria and...

Oral drug delivery is the most preferred route for the various drug molecules among all other routes of drug delivery, because ease of administration which lead to better patient compliance. So, oral extended release drug delivery system becomes a very promising approach for those drugs that are given orally but having the shorter half-life and high dosing frequency. Extended release drug delivery system which reduce the dosing frequency of certain drugs by releasing the drug slowly over an extended period of time. Oral sustained drug delivery system is complicated by limited gastric residence times (GRTs). To overcome these limitations, various approaches have been proposed to increase gastric residence of drug delivery systems in the upper part of the gastrointestinal tract. The purpose of writing this review was to compile recent literature on pharmaceutical approaches used in enhancing the Gastric Residence Time (GRT). Enhancing the GRT may explore new potentials of stomach as drug-absorbing organ. Several approaches are currently used including Floating drug delivery system, Matrix tablet, pulsatile drug delivery,...
