Moringa oleifera belongs to an onogeneric family of shrubs and tree, Moringaceae. In the Dravidian language there are many local names for Moringa oleifera but all are derived from the generic root “Morunga”. It has anticancer, anti-inflammatory activity and thyroid status regulator efficacies. An experiment was carried out to study the antibacterial activity of different solvent extracts of Moringa oleifera plant by agar well diffusion method against Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pnemoniae, Shigella dysentriae and Staphylococcus aureus that frequently cause enteric infections in humans. The benzene, methanol and aqueous extracts of Moringa oleifera leaves, bark, seed and flesh have shown strong antibacterial activity against all the organisms tested such as B. subtilis, E. coli, K. pneumoniae. S. dysentriae and S. aureus. The zone of inhibition ranged from 7-23mm. The plant Moringa oleifera can be used as a source of oral drugs to fight infections caused by susceptible...

Rizatriptan is a selective 5-HT1B/1D agonist which is used in the treatment of migraine headaches. Zero order spectroscopic method has been developed for the determination of rizatriptan. Rizatriptan in its 0.1 N HCl solutions was determined at the wavelength ranges of 220–400 nm by the spectroscopic method. Rizatriptan showed an absorption peak at 226 nm. Linearity ranges were found as 1-5 µg/ml. for the zero order UV spectroscopic method. Limit of quantitation was determined as 0.0944 µg/ml whereas limit of detection was calculated as 0.0311 µg/ml for the same measurements, respectively. No interference was found from tablet excipients at the selected wavelengths and assay conditions. Developed method was found to be validated and showed good precision and reproducibility. Proposed method was successfully applied to the assay of rizatriptan in pure and tablet dosage forms and assessed as to be rapid, sensitive, accurate and relatively...

After more than a century, tuberculosis (TB) is still a formidable public health challenge as it contributes considerably to illness and death worldwide, irrespective of continuous advancement in technology and in depth understanding of molecular biology concepts. Mycobacterium tuberculosis persist for longer period in human and animal host in latent state without causing active disease and may reactivate soon after immunity declines. Today’s chemotherapy is lengthy as well as ineffective to control tuberculosis. Moreover, in the absence of fundamental biological understanding of mycobacterial persistence, significant pathogen driven factors and validated animal models, shortening the duration of anti-tuberculosis therapy remains a distant goal. Subsequently, molecular signaling proteins which serve as potential targets should be explored and explicated to limit mycobacterial growth. This review focuses on mechanisms of mycobacterial persistence, various models of latent tuberculosis, identification of crucial gene targets, vaccination and therapeutic approaches to target latent tuberculosis...

Colocasia esculenta belonging to family araceae popularly knows as “taro”, is very useful medicinal plant described by Charaka as an anti-inflammatory plant. An experiment was carried out to study the antimicrobial activity of chloroform and methanol extract of Colocasia esculenta plant by agar diffusion method. Zone of inhibition produced by chloroform and methanol extract in dose of 20, 10, 5, 2.5, 1.25, 0.625, 0.3125 mg/ml against some selected strains was measured and compared with standard antibiotics tetracycline in dose of 5, 2.5, 0.625, 0.3125, 0.15625, 0.078072...

Yoga and exercise are an efficient way of declining patients of hypertension in present and in future. However it has been shown that Non-pharmacological intervention prevent the rising blood pressure and reduce it up to maximum extent, near to the normal. This experiment was designed to determine effectiveness of Yoga and exercises therapies to control blood pressure of hypertension patients. The objective was to employ these Non pharmacological therapies to know it’s effectiveness in treatment of hypertension along with pharmacological therapies in conventional way. We tested the short-term efficacy and feasibility to the treatment of hypertension in a small South Gujarat’s industry employees who are living under modern life-style. This was follow-up by physician for 12 months. Of 1031 a small South Gujarat’s industry employees screened, 221 individuals (aged 35 to 60 years) were selected with hypertension. Mental and physical stress-reduction approaches (Meditation and progressive muscle relaxation) were compared with a life-style modification education control program and with each other. The primary outcome measures were changes in clinical diastolic...
