Background: Tragia involucrata Linn., leaves are traditionally used for the treatment of liver disorders, eczema, viral infections, headache, respiratory infections, etc. There is lack of documentation of safety data and non-availability of quality control standards for the ayurvedic traditional medicines. Aim & Objective: The aim of the study was designed to determine the pharmacognostic, phytochemical and physico-chemical standardization of leaves of Tragia involucrata Linn. Materials & Methods: The Pharmacognostical parameters such as organoleptic evaluation (macroscopy) and microscopy (T.S of Leaf) were done to identify the morphological and anatomical structures. For powder microscopy, coarse powder is treated with routine reagents to identify the diagnostic features of the plant. Preliminary phytochemical screening, physicochemical parameters was determined as per the prescribed guidelines and fluorescent behaviour of coarse leaf powder was also determined. These parameters are useful tools to differentiate the powdered drug material from the adulterated ones. Results: The macroscopical characters such as colour, shape, size, odour and surface characteristics were observed. Transverse section of leaf and powder microscopy revealed the presence...

In obese patients with noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), reducing calorie intake improves glycemic control. The present study tested the theory that controlling calorie intake has an important role in long term, independent of weight loss in metabolic regulation of NIDDM patients. 23 women included in this study were selected, Antidiabetic therapy (except metformin) was discontinued concurrently with the start of VLCKD diet and Parameters were collected at starting program and once every 3 months for a year. In result, on T3 (after 9 months) ofVLCKD restriction produced substantial decreases in fasting plasma glucose for (19±9.31 ), HbA1c % (1±0.34),Weight loss (35.6±9.9), BMI (11.9±2.5 ), Tri Acyl Glycerol(22.99±19.27) and Total Cholesterol (52.5±4.89), and no significant decreasing in Creatinine is found .While on T4 ( after 12 months)there is a significant decreasing in: fasting plasma glucose for (18±8.41 ), HbA1c % (1±0.5), Weight loss (33.5±10.3), BMI (12.3±2.2 ), Tri Acyl Glycerol (18±22.1) and Total Cholesterol (46.7±21.5), and no significant decreasing in Creatinine. It is important to noticethe stability of biochemical parameters...

Clitoria ternatea (Blue tea) is a traditional medicinal plant belonging to family Fabaceae having generous amount of anthocyanins which possess majorly antioxidant properties. It contains wide range of phytoconstituents such as triterpenoids, flavanol glycosides, tannins, alkaloids, amino acids, proteins, ternatins (poly acylated anthocyanins) and carbohydrates etc. According to the data obtained from different in-vitro studies, this plant possess antioxidant, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, hepatoprotective, nootropic, central cholinergic, antidepressant, antianxiety, anticonvulsant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, wound healing, anticancer and many other pharmacological properties. In this report various preclinical studies data revealed about the efficacy of Clitoria ternatea plant in the treatment of neurological, inflammatory and oxidative stress induced...

Biochar can be used as an efficient and low-cost adsorbent for wastewater treatment as heavy metal pollution has become the serious issue for environmental pollution today. A number of studies have demonstrated effective removal of heavy metals from water by biochar. Several factors affecting the sorption tendency of biochar, feedstocks materials play a significant role. Depending on the biochar type, heavy metals can be removed by different methods such as complexation, physical sorption, precipitation and electrostatic interactions. In recent years, ample method for heavy metal removal from wastewater has been extensively studied. This paper reviews the recent methods that have been used to treat heavy metal removal from wastewater and evaluates these techniques. These techniques include ion-exchange capacity, adsorption, membrane filtration, coagulation-flocculation, flotation and electrochemical methods. From literature review it is evident that ion-exchange, adsorption and membrane filtration are the most recent studied for the treatment of heavy metal...

Diabetes is a chronic disease characterized by fasting blood glucose levels above 1.26 g/L. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the methanolic extract of Picralima nitida seeds on insulin and blood glucose levels in diabetic rats. Diabetes was induced in normoglycemic rats by injection of 1 mL alloxane at a dose of 125 mg/kg bw for three consecutive days. Blood samples were taken every other day to determine insulin and blood glucose levels. Diabetic rats were then treated for 14 days with 10, 20 and 50 mg/kg bw of P. nitida seed extract and 5 mg/kg bw of Glibenclamide®. At the end of treatment, the rats’ blood was collected again for determination of insulin and blood glucose P. nitida levels. The results obtained show that initial insulinemia, which was 16 ± 0.12 μU/mL, fell in diabetic rats (7 ± 0.004 μU/mL) before significantly increasing to 15 ± 0.3 μU/mL and 17 μU/mL ± 0.02 after treatment with P. nitida extract and Glibenclamide®. In...
