The aim of the present study was to characterize the petroleum ether, chloroform, and ethanol extracts of rhizomes of Curcuma leucorrhiza Roxb and to evaluate their biological activities such as anti-oxidant, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal activities. Sequential solvent extraction was performed by Soxhlet apparatus using petroleum ether, chloroform, and ethanol, and respective extracts were named as CL-P, CL-C and CL-E. Antioxidant activities of the extracts were evaluated by DPPH, ABTS, and lipid per oxidation assays. Antibacterial and antifungal activities were evaluated against Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli (MTCC 739), Gram-positive bacteria Bacillus subtilis (MTCC 121), Micrococcus luteus (MTCC 106), Mycobacterium smegmatis (MTCC 6), fungal plant pathogen Rhizoctonia solani (MTCC 4633) and fungal animal pathogen Aspergillus niger (MTCC 1344) using agar well diffusion method with some modifications. Phytochemical analysis showed that solvent extracts of Curcuma leucorrhiza rhizome contained polyphenol, phenols, quinones, flavonoids, terpenoids, carbohydrates, glycosides, cardiac glycosides, coumarins and alkaloids. All the three extracts used in the study displayed the ability to scavenge DPPH and ABTS radicals and to inhibit lipid peroxidation....

The crude drug powder extracts from three plants Datura metel L., (Solanaceae), Leucas cephalotes (Roth.). Spreng, Piper betel L., (Piperaceae) were screened for estimating phytochemical constituents. Phytochemical analysis of the extracts revealed that glycoside; tannin, saponin, carbohydrate and phenolic compounds are present in Piper and Leucas species. Besides glycoside, tannin, saponin, carbohydrate and phenolic compound, alkaloid is also present in Datura species. The antimicrobial activity of the plant materials and their usefulness in the treatment of asthma may be due to the presence of active constituents like tannins, alkaloids and phenolic. The present study reported that the phytochemical constituents of three plants being widely used for traditional treatment of asthma in Myanmar, collected from Kalay, Sagaing...

Background: Psoriasis is an immune-mediated inflammatory disease characterized by excessive growth and abnormal differentiation of keratinocytes. Objective: In the present research work, an attempt has been made to formulate and evaluate gel containing cyclosporine, aloe vera and tree tea oil. Methods: The gel was prepared by a conventional method and evaluated for various parameters viz., physical appearance, pH, drug content, viscosity, spreadability and in-vitro diffusion studies, In-vitro skin retention studies and stability studies. The prepared optimized gel was further compared with marketed formulation; all the formulations were good in appearance and had good homogeneity. Results: The optimized gel is shown spreadability co-efficient is 5.8 g cm/sec. The gel has shown 95 ± 0.32% releases in 6 h when evaluated for in-vitro diffusion studies. The biological evaluation of the optimized gel has shown 47.98 % drug activity, indicating good efficacy of the formulation against psoriasis. Conclusion: In conclusion, the prepared optimized gel has shown good spreading co-efficient and stability and can be effective for psoriasis as compared to available gel...

Scurrula parasitica L. is a parasitic plant, traditionally used by the people of Mizoram for the treatment of various diseases, and locally called Vatesawi. The bioassay-guided purification of the methanol extract of the leaves of Scurrula parasitica L. led to the isolation of 2-(3, 4-dihydroxy phenyl)-3,5,7-trihydroxy-4H-Chromen-4-one. Quercetin is a flavonol that belongs to one of the subclasses of flavonoids. For separation and purification of compounds, thin layer chromatography and column chromatography were performed using the plant extract. Then identification was done by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with mass spectral analysis, and confirmation of the isolated compound was performed with thin layer chromatography. The results showed that the solvent system of ethyl acetate 7: chloroform 3 had accurate separation, and the fraction no-200 from column chromatography was processed for identification of the compound. Structures were established with the mass spectrum and confirmation of the compound was done by comparing with standard quercetin, and both appeared at the same wavelength of 254nm (RT...

Medical prescription carefully conceived is essential to provide effective health care to the patient. It is a medicolegal document that should be legible, clear and complete. However, several studies have shown that prescription errors remain common worldwide, particularly in low-income countries the such Democratic Republic of Congo. This study aimed to explore the completeness of medical prescriptions in Southeast Kinshasa community pharmacies and to propose possible solutions. The study was conducted from January to Mai 2020. A total of 720 prescriptions were randomly sampled and assessed for key elements following WHO guidelines. Prescriptions analysis was performed using the descriptive statistics: percentage, mean and frequency. Prescribers, patients and drug details were recorded at an average rate of 54.41% (1.94-98.89%), 38.92% (0-94.17%), 38.23% (14.87-90.22%) and 59.28% (11.67-99.4%), 27.68% (3.05-90.55%), 38.71% (15.88-98.39%) from Ngaba and Lemba community pharmacies, respectively. Only 19.63% and 11.15% of drugs were written in generic names, respectively. The average drug number by prescription was 4.37 (1-10) and 3.29 (1-9), respectively. Our study revealed that prescription errors are a...
