Alcohol dependence syndrome (ADS) is an important condition causing significant morbidity and mortality contributing to 20-30% of all hospital admissions in India. There are various pharmacological agents available that are equally effective in the treatment of ADS along with psychotherapy. Hence this study is conducted. This is a cross-sectional study conducted in the inpatient department of Psychiatry, Victoria hospital, Bangalore for a period of 4 months. 70 study participants diagnosed with alcohol dependence syndrome willing to give written informed consent were enrolled. Demographic profile and treatment details were noted in a pre-structured case proforma. Data was analyzed and represented using descriptive statistics. The mean age of study participants was 39.38 ± 10.59 years, with a male predominance (98.57%) and mean duration of alcohol dependence was found to be 6.55 ± 0.55 years. 73% of Study participants were diagnosed with ADS alone whereas 27% had ADS along with comorbidities such as psychosis, alcoholic hepatitis, seizures, delirium tremens, diabetes mellitus and hypertension which were treated accordingly. In this study a combination...

Genitourinary tract infections (GUTIs) are a common health concern among females of reproductive age, with significant implications for reproductive and overall health. These infections can lead to complications such as Pelvic Inflammatory diseases, Pyelonephritis and Chronic kidney failure. Furthermore, this leads to poor social and economic impact, particularly in developing nations such as India. The study was conducted to assess the prevalence and drug utilization patterns in the treatment of GUTIs in this population. A cross-sectional analysis was conducted across a diverse cohort of 500 females aged 18-45 years visiting the tertiary care center in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. Data were collected on the frequency of GUTI symptoms, types of infections, commonly prescribed medications, and adherence to treatment regimens. The results indicate a high prevalence of urinary tract infections (UTIs) and bacterial vaginosis, with significant variability in drug prescription patterns. The results of the study highlighted the concerns regarding antibiotic overuse and resistance. Factors such as age, socioeconomic status, and comorbid conditions were found to influence both infection rates...

This study aimed to formulate and evaluate ciprofloxacin-loaded niosomes for sustained ocular drug delivery and enhanced bioavailability by increasing residence time in the eye. Niosomes were prepared via thin film hydration using Tween 80, 60, and 20 at three different concentrations, keeping cholesterol and drug ratios constant. These vesicles were assessed for drug encapsulation efficiency and in-vitro release. Among the formulations, Tween 60-based niosomes in a 1:1 ratio with cholesterol (F4) showed superior drug entrapment and release in phosphate buffer saline (PBS). F4 was incorporated into Carbopol 940 gel base to enhance ocular retention. The resulting gel demonstrated suitable viscosity, pH, and a mean vesicle size of 203.7 ± 1.3 nm with a PDI of 0.337 ± 0.2 and positive zeta potential, indicating uniformity and stability. SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) analysis confirmed the spherical shape of the vesicles. In-vitro release studies indicated zero-order kinetics, with the Higuchi model suggesting diffusion-controlled release. The Korsemeyer-Peppas model yielded an ‘n’ value above 0.5, indicating non-Fickian diffusion involving both diffusion and polymer matrix relaxation. Stability testing as per...

Psoriasis, a chronic inflammatory skin condition, which leads to residual scarring to patients. Conventional treatments for these scars have limitations, driving interest in herbal remedies. This review examines the potential of Neem (Azadirachta indica), Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis Miller), and Turmeric (Curcuma longa), individually and in combination, for managing psoriasis scars, particularly within polyherbal cream formulations. The review covers the phytochemical composition, pharmacological properties, clinical evidence, and mechanisms of action of these herbs, along with formulation considerations, safety profiles, and future research directions. Neem, Aloe vera, and Turmeric possess anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, and skin-regenerative properties. Combining them may offer synergistic benefits for improving psoriasis scar appearance. Further research is needed to validate these effects and develop standardized, effective, and safe polyherbal...

The green synthesis of bismuth nanoparticles (BiNPs) using plant extracts presents a sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to conventional nanoparticle fabrication methods. Bismuth, a low-toxicity post-transition metal, exhibits unique physicochemical properties suitable for applications in biomedicine, imaging, catalysis, and environmental remediation. Traditional synthesis approaches often involve toxic reagents and energy-intensive processes, whereas green synthesis leverages phytochemicals such as flavonoids, phenolic, terpenoids, and alkaloids as natural reducing and stabilizing agents. This review explores various plant-mediated methods for synthesizing BiNPs, emphasizing how factors like pH, temperature, and reaction time influence nanoparticle morphology and functionality. Analytical techniques including UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM, and zeta potential analysis are discussed in relation to nanoparticle characterization. The biomedical applications of green-synthesized BiNPs, particularly their antibacterial, anticancer, and imaging potential, are examined alongside their role in photocatalytic degradation of environmental pollutants. While promising, the field faces challenges such as variability in plant extract composition, limited mechanistic understanding, and lack of standardization in synthesis protocols. Addressing these issues is essential for the scalable and reproducible production of...
