Background: There is a significant link between polypharmacy and the emergence of adverse effects, drug interactions, and increased mortality among elderly patients. Polypharmacy and inappropriate prescription are matters of concern in elderly individuals; therefore, this study was done to find the pattern of polypharmacy among elderly patients. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was carried out at Tripura Medical College & Dr. B. R. Ambedkar Memorial Teaching Hospital (TMC) for a period of 12 months for elderly patients. Polypharmacy was analyzed by counting the number of medications per prescription. Each prescription drug was analyzed for overprescription, under-prescription, and inappropriateness individually. Baseline data were represented by suitable tables & figures and expressed in frequency, percentage, mean & standard deviation. The Chi-square test was applied to find out any statistical association. P value < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: 444 elderly (65 years & above) patients attending medicine OPD were interviewed individually. Our study showed that 36.93% of the patients were receiving polypharmacy. There was a significant association between overprescription or underprescription...

Introduction: The incidence and prevalence of diabetes and its complications has been significantly increased in recent times. C-reactive protein and hyperuricemia are early inflammatory markers associated with type 2 diabetes. Increased uric acid levels are known to be associated with endothelial dysfunction. The relationship between serum uric acid and inflammation in type 2 diabetes has not been explored thoroughly. Aim: The study estimates the levels of High sensitivity (hs) C-reactive protein and serum uric acid in type 2 diabetic patients. To find the correlation between serum uric acid levels and C-reactive protein levels in diabetic patients. Material and Methods: The observational study was conducted on 100 patients suffering from type 2 diabetic patients more than 40 years of age of either sex, coming to the biochemistry lab for investigations for six months. The serum uric acid, hs-C-reactive protein, and fasting blood glucose levels were analyzed. Results: It was observed that hs-CRP was significantly correlated with uric acid (with r=0.276, p-value= 0.005). It was also observed that there was no...

Citrus fruits are known for their nutritiousness. Role of vitamins and minerals play a major role in citrus fruits during plant-pathogen interactions. These fruits are the supreme fruit crops which contain flavonoids and phenolic compounds. These molecules benefit individuals who are all consuming and play an important role in fruit ripening and development. Mainly these molecules act as antioxidants to eliminate free radicals formed during fruit development. Primary metabolism is the same in citrus as it estimates the flow of carbon in fruits. In this review, we discuss a few antioxidant molecules that have an additional role in the fruit development. These molecules are vitamins, phenolic compounds and terpenoids, mostly except vitamins; all the compounds are found in an actual form where vitamins A, C, E are available in the form of beta Carotenes, ascorbic acid or ascorbate and tocopherols in plants. Phenolic acids and coumarins are rich in citrus fruits and are powerful due to their hydroxyl groups. Limonoids are a terpenoid molecule mostly seen in the seeds,...

We are in the half past of 2022, but still, we are facing the coronavirus pandemic situation. When a patient is hospitalized, only some FDA-approved drugs were administered to cure the patient. In treating coronavirus infection, nitazoxanide, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor inhibitors, and various monoclonal antibodies are present. But all the molecules used in the treatment were not so effective in fully curing the patient. So, to break this jinx to develop of newer generation anti-SARS-CoV-2 drug molecules, computational approaches played an essential role. 2D QSAR studies related to anti-SARS-CoV-2 molecule development, some QSAR models observed with good statistical parameters such as R2: 0.748, cross-validated Q2 (LOO): 0.628, external predicted R2: 0.723 and another model suggested with R2: 0.764, Q2: 0.627 and Rm2: 0.610, Q2 (F1): 0.727, Q2 (F1): 0.652, MAE score: 0.127. We developed a new 2D QSAR model with a higher number of molecules and greater statistical parameters. A dataset of 84 anti-SARS-CoV2 molecules was obtained from literature followed by descriptor calculation PADEL software; the QSAR model was...

Barringtonia acutangula (L.) Gaertn. (Family: Lecythidaceae), is a medium-sized tree found throughout India. It has been used in folk medicine to treat tuberculosis, skin disease, inflammation, hemorrhoids and diarrhea. The present study deals with in-vitro antioxidant, antimicrobial and GC-MS study on the bark extract of B. acutangula. In order to investigate the antioxidant activity, reducing power activity was used. Antibacterial activity was evaluated by disc diffusion method. Identification of extract bioactive compounds by GC-MS revealed that alpha-Pinene oxide, 1,2-benzoldicarbonsaeure di-(hex-1-en-5-yl-ester), 3-methyl-4-heptanone, (Z)-3-hexadecene are the major components. The antioxidant activity of the bark extract increased with increasing concentration; the values are comparable with the standard antioxidant ascorbic acid. From the results of antibacterial activity, B. acutangula bark extract could inhibit gram-negative and gram-positive pathogenic bacteria. Thus, B. acutangula could be considered as an excellent broad-spectrum antibacterial...
