Aim / Background: Aim of this study is to provide scientific evidences that supports the traditional use of Begonia picta; helps to prepare Begonia picta Ayurvedic and / or allopathic formulation for immediate use of herb. Methods: In present study biological screenings were done by following Cytotoxicity pre-screening by Brine shrimp lethality bioassay, anti-hyperglycemic activity evaluation by oral glucose tolerance test and anti-inflammatory effect evaluation by hind paw edema method. Results: The brine shrimp lethality bioassay showed that the hexane and methanolic extracts of Begonia picta was mildly toxic to Artemia salina naupalii having LC50 values 162.0690 µg/ml and 237.263 µg/ml respectively. The highest percentage of blood glucose lowering effect was found in 180 minutes for standard drug (32.52%), Begonia picta extract 200 mg/kg (39.62%), and 400 mg/kg (43.17%). Anti-inflammatory activity test result showed that maximum inhibition activity observed during 5 hour: 31.74% of standard, 28.08% of test (200 mg/kg) and 29.78% of test (400 mg/kg). Conclusion: The brine shrimp lethality bioassay confirmed that the hexane and methanolic extracts...

Solid lipid nanoparticle is the forfront of the rapidly developing field of nanotechnology and as an alternative to other traditional colloidal carriers like liposomes, polymeric nanoparticles and emulsions as they have advantages like controlled drug release and targeted drug delivery with increased stability. Objective: Solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) consist of spherical solid lipid particles in the nanometer size range, which are dispersed in water or in an aqueous surfactant solution. SLN technology represents a promising new approach to deliver hydrophilic as well as lipophilic drugs. Due to their unique size dependant properly, lipid nanoparticles offer to devlop the new therapeutics. Method: The incorporation of drugs into nanocarriers offers a new prototype in drug delivery that could be used for several levels of drug targeting. Hence, solid lipid nanoparticles hold great promise for reaching the goal of controlled and site-specific drug delivery and hence have attracted the wide attention of researchers. Conclusion: The present review article focus on overview about the potential advantages, disadvantages, the excipients and all the different...

Chlorpheniramine maleate and Dextromethorphan are used in treatment of cough caused by allergies and the common cold by decreasing intra ocular pressure. The present study was designed to develop and validate a simple, sensitive, precise and accurate reverse phase high performance liquid chromatographic (HPLC) method for simultaneous determination of Chlorpheniramine maleate and Dextromethorphan in tablet dosage form. Chromatographic separation of these two drugs was achieved on Discovery C18 column (250 x 4.6 mm, 5 μm) as stationary phase with a mobile phase of Water (pH 2 adjusted with OPA): Acetonitrile (60:40v/v) at a flow rate of 1 ml/min and PDA detection at 218 nm. The retention times of Chlorpheniramine maleate and Dextromethorphan were found to be 3.0 min and 3.6 min respectively. The proposed method was validated for system suitability, linearity, accuracy, precision, LOD, LOQ and robustness. The calibration curves were linear in the concentration range of 50% to 150% of the working concentration (r2 = 0.999) for both the drugs in binary mixture. The LOD was found to...

The objective of this study was to evaluate and optimize Eudragit concentration and coating level on metronidazole release from granules for colon delivery using 32 full factorial design. Independent variables selected were Eudragit conc. (10, 15 and 20%) and coating level (10, 15 and 20%), the evaluated responses were percent drug release at 5 h, 24 h and time to release 50% of the drug. The dissolution was carried out at different pH media of 1.2, 7.4 and 6.8. The dissolution data revealed that polymer conc. and coating level were having significant role in achieving optimum formulation. Using surface response, contour plot and statistical equations, the optimum formulation consisting of 15% of polymer conc. and 20% coating level was predicted. Experimental data showed that the granular formulations releases no drug at pH 1.2 (simulating stomach) and only 12.85 ± 1.63% at pH 6.8 (simulating small intestine) and controlled at pH 7.4. The result of this study showed that the factorial design is a suitable tool for optimization of coating...

Endophytic actinomycetes are the potential source for obtaining novel bioactive compounds. Present study evaluates the chemical constituents in Ocimum basillicum and its endophytic actinomycetes. Eleven endophytic actinomycetes were isolated from O. basillicum plant. Among eleven, one isolate was characterized by 16S rRNA and identified as Streptomyces flavoviridis A3WK. A comparative analysis of the FT-IR, GC-MS, antibacterial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of plant and endophytic actinomycetes extracts was conducted. 12 compounds each of Streptomyces flavoviridis A3WK and O. basillicum were identified by GC-MS. The FT-IR and GC-MS analysis reveals that S. flavoviridis A3WK has more antimicrobial, antioxidant activity and anti-inflammatory properties compared with the results of O. basillicum. Over all the activity of the endophytic actinomycetes was more compared to that of the O. basillicum extracts. The study reveals to show that the existence of endophytic actinomycetes may enhances medicinal value of the medicinal plants, and hence such studies help in the study of endophytic actinomycetes as well as their relevance in host...
