A High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) technique has been developed for the determining of foreign impurities in the parent substance of carboren. We have proposed the most sensitive, selective and also the universal HPLC method to be used, which would allow to conduct the qualitative and quantitative analysis under the same conditions so that to determine foreign impurities in the substance. Reliable separation of carboren and impurities was performed on a liquid chromatography equipped with a spectrophotometric detector and an analytical stainless steel column (250 × 4, 6 mm) of size, filled with C18 sorbent (5m km), in gradient elution mode. The detection of limits for carboren and identified of potential organic impurities were determined. It was found that the content of any other individual impurity did not exceed 0.1%, the total content of impurities did not exceed 0.5%. In the samples, impurities A, B and C were detected with a relative retention time of 0.35; 0.42 and 0.30. The results were repeatedly reproduced in model mixtures, parent substance...

Nanoemulsions are the novel drug delivery system which allows sustained or controlled release of drug, biological active ingredient and genetic material. Nanoemulsion is a system consisting of oil, surfactant and an aqueous phase, which is an isotropically clear and thermo-dynamically or kinetically stable liquid solution, usually with droplet diameter within the range of 10 – 500 nm. Nanoemulsion is one of the supreme and valuable dosage forms with the appliance of nano-technology in pharmaceutical formulations. Very small size droplets of the nanoemulsion support better drug absorption and targeting. It not only improves the conventional emulsion systems but also opens new opportunities for other drugs to be designed more precisely with better bioavailability and accurate dosing leading to minimum side effects. The purpose of this research was to develop nanoemulsion of itraconazole that leads to higher dissolution rate and improved bioavailability. Itraconazole nanoemulsion was prepared by solvent displacement method and characterized by particle size determination, polydispersity index, drug content, entrapment efficiency and % cumulative release. The results obtained reveals that...

Chlorophyll and carotenoids are important photosynthetic pigments found in higher plants, cyanobacteria and algae. Carotenoids are responsible for bright red, yellow and orange color in many fruits and vegetables. These two pigments play an important role in plant health. Chlorophyll and carotenoids are reported to contain anticancer properties. Chlorophyll and carotenoids protect skin and help in normal blood clotting, hormonal balance and in deodorization. Chlorophyll and carotenoids have healing effects on oxidation and inflammatory conditions and has great antioxidant properties also. The primary objective of this comparative study is to find out the plant which contains high amount of chlorophyll and carotenoids as these two bioactive compounds has great applications in herbal medicine. In the present course of study, chlorophyll and carotenoids were extracted from the leaves of 21 medicinal plants using 80% acetone and quantified by Arnon method (1949) and Lichtenthaler and Wellburn method respectively. The results revealed that among the 21 medicinal plants under this study, Cocos nucifera (Tree) contains highest amount of total chlorophyll and total...

We evaluated the total phenolic acid content and antioxidant activity of methanolic and aqueous extracts of Calycopteris floribunda roots. Antioxidant activity of the extracts was determined using Reducing Power Assay and Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC) assays. Preliminary phytochemical analysis of the extracts revealed the presence of various phytochemicals. The total phenolic content of the extracts was higher in methanol than compared to aqueous extracts and subsequently higher antioxidant activity was also observed in case of methanol extracts. The results revealed that the antioxidant activity of the extracts was positively associated with the total phenolic acid...

Phloroglucinol is a polyphenol and a component of phlorotannins belonging to the Laminariaceae family. Phloroglucinol has many positive effects on health. The present study was aimed to evaluate the antioxidant potential of phloroglucinol by comparing it with Standard antioxidant viz, ascorbic acid. The antioxidant potential of phloroglucinol was estimated using free radicals such as 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), superoxide anion (O2–), nitric oxide (NO–), hydroxyl radical (OH), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) by standard methods. The study shows that phloroglucinol is more powerful against DPPH and hydrogen peroxide radicals, when compared to other radicals. The IC50 value of Phloroglucinol is 42 ± 1.00 µg/ml for DPPH, 53.66 ± 1.52 µg/ml for Nitric oxide, 102 ± 2.00 µg/ml for Superoxide, 180 ± 3.60 µg/ml for Hydroxyl and 52.3 ± 1.52 µg/ml for Hydrogen peroxide radicals. In-vitro methods suggest that phloroglucinol is effective against DPPH and hydrogen peroxide radicals. Thus our study showed that the phloroglucinol exhibited antioxidant activity against all the free radicals and could be considered as a source of natural...
