The purpose of this research work was to establish mucoadhesive buccal device of Rosuvastatin Calcium(RC) in the form of bilayered tablet. The tablets were prepared using natural gums like Xanthan gum, Tamarid gum, Gellan gum and Chitosan as bioadhesive polymers to impart mucoadhesion as well as permeation enhancement property to the formulation. Ethyl cellulose & magnesium stearate were added to act as an impermeable backing layer which gives unidirectional buccal drug delivery. Buccal devices were evaluated for different parameters such as weight uniformity, content uniformity, thickness, hardness, surface pH, swelling index, ex vivo mucoadhesive strength, ex vivo mucoadhesive time, in vitro drug release, and in vitro drug permeation. The results of study revealed that the formulation containing a combination of polymers like chitosan and natural gums shows suitatble drug permeation rate as well as mucoadhesive strength. So, it can be concluded that buccal mucoadhesive tablet is potential way of delivering Rosuvastatin in order to prevent its extensive first pass metabolism and to improve its...

The present study was carried out to investigate the antihyperglycemic, oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) and antihyperlipidemic (Total cholesterol and triglycerides) effects of the methanolic extract of Stephania japonica (Thunb.) Miers. tenril (MSJT). The MSJT was administered orally as a dose of 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight to alloxan induced hyperglycemic rats and found to reduce blood glucose level significantly (p<0.05). The MSJT also significantly reduce the lipid content which was increased in hyperglycemic rats. The effects of plant extract were compared with standard drug metformin. The phytochemical screening tests indicated that the different constituents such as saponins, tannins, triterpines, alkaloids, flavonoids and glycosides etc. were present in the plant which has antidiabetic and hypolipidemic properties. Thus, this investigation paves the way for plant based antihyperglycemic and antihyperlipidemic treatment and indicates that MSJL have favorable effect in bringing down the severity of hyperglycemia, enhancing antihyperlipidemic activity and also improving glucose tolerance...

Dillenia Indica, commonly known as elephant apple and locally known as outenga, is the handsome evergreen tree grows in the moist forest of sub-Himalayan region to Assam. The fruit grows in abundance and due to lack of knowledge and technical knowledge; most of these fruits are wasted. In Assam, traditionally the unripe fruits are used to make curries because of its sour taste and ripe fruits are making pickles. The fruits are generally high in fibre and due to presence of gummy substances, extraction of juice becomes difficult. The plant grows about 15 m tall. Not only the fruits have medicinal values but the leaves and the bark also showed numerous pharmacological activity. The studies showed that the plant possesses various activities like Antimicrobial, Antioxidant, Analgesic, Anti-inflammatory, dysentery, Antidiabetic etc. The fruits and the juice of the plant are traditionally used for the treatment of various diseases and one of the major diseases is Diabetes Mellitus. It was also proved from the review of literatures that this plant possesses...

The emergence of multi-drug-resistant strains of M. tuberculosis makes it necessary for the discovery of new drugs, and also implement other modalities of treatment. Eperezolid and linezolid are oxalidinones which are in phase II clinical trials. Other oxalidinones like AZD5847 and PNU100480 are being evaluated in a phase I trials. Regimens based on a higher dose of rifampin in humans are also being evaluated. Rifapentine (10 mg/kg) was approved for the treatment of pulmonary TB in 1998. Fluroquinolones like Ofloxacin, Ciprofloxacin, Lomifloxacin, levofloxacin, sparfloxacin and Moxifloxacin are effective against M. tuberculosis and are in various phase of development. Newer molecules like TMC207, nitroimidazoles like PA-824 and OPC-67683 are in phase II. Diamines like SQ109 has shown to have in vitro action between SQ109 and isoniazid and especially rifampin. SQ609, a dipiperidine, which is an inhibitor of translocase, involved in cell wall synthesis, is in preclinical studies. Sudoterb (LL3858) is found to have bactericidal activity against both drug senstitive and MDR-TB. BTZ-043 (NM4TB Consortium), FAS20013, LL3858, CPZEN-45, are also in...

Pyrus pashia Buch.-Ham. ex D. Don is distributed in the Himalayan region with great ethnic uses. Leaves of P. pashia are consumed as butter tea beverages by the Monpa community of Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh (India). The pulverized leaves were extracted using accelerated solvent extractor (ASE) in different organic solvents with increasing polarity. The leaf extracts of P. pashia were evaluated for the free radical scavenging activity by 2, 2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay and total phenolic content (TPC) were determined by Folin Ciocalteu’s method. The methanolic and water extracts shows strong free radical scavenging activity with IC50 values of 10.81±0.44 µg/ml and 11.57±0.36 µg/ml respectively. The methanolic extract has the highest TPC value of 351.16±0.43 mg/g. The study highlighted the antioxidant potentiality of Pyrus pashia Buch.-Ham. ex D. Donleaves and confirms it as a healthy beverage taken by the Monpa...
