Pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) seeds represent a biologically rich and underutilized by-product of fruit processing whose therapeutic potential has gained considerable scientific interest in recent years. This study presents a systematic phytochemical investigation of the ethanolic seed extract of Punica granatum, encompassing both qualitative screening and rigorous quantitative estimation of the phytoconstituents present. The extraction was performed using ethanol as the solvent system, chosen for its broad-spectrum efficacy in isolating both polar and semi-polar bioactive compounds, using Soxhlet extraction. A total of 50 g of dried seed powder was extracted using 500 mL of 95% ethanol in a Soxhlet apparatus for 8 hours, yielding 6.34 g of dried extract (extractive yield: 12.68% w/w). Qualitative analysis confirmed the presence of alkaloids, phenols, terpenoids, and glycosides; whereas flavonoids, tannins, and saponins were absent under the applied test conditions. Quantitative analysis revealed a total alkaloid content of 4.397 µg AE/g DE, a corrected total phenolic content (TPC) of 13.96 ± 0.42 mg GAE/g DE, and a Baljet-reactive glycoside content of 224.372 ±...

The prescription writing process by prescriber is a very important step, and prescription error can lead to irrational use of medicine. The objective of the research is to describe and evaluate drug utilization patterns using WHO core indicators at the tertiary level. This is prospective observational study which was carried out in indoor IHD patients (IPD). WHO drug prescribing indicators were used to assess the drug utilization pattern. A total of 400 patients with IHD were recruited for the study. The cardiovascular class accounted for 68.02% of all drugs prescribed. 29.82% of FDCs in total drugs were prescribed in this study. The percentage of prescriptions with injections and antibiotics prescribed was 84.25% and 4% respectively. A total of 3743 drugs were prescribed, with an average of 9.36 ± 0.88 drugs per prescription. All drugs (100%) were prescribed with a generic name. 98% drugs were from essential drug list (Rajasthan-2019). The percentage of prescriptions with prescriptions for injections and the average number of drugs per prescription were much higher than...

Background: Pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) is one of the leading causes for maternal mortality and morbidity among pregnant mothers in India. PIH is characterized by elevated blood pressure at or above 140/90 mmhg during pregnancy. Adequate knowledge, positive attitude and practises are at most important among the hypertensive mothers for proper management and prevention of maternal and neonatal complications during pregnancy. Objective: To assess the level of knowledge, attitude and practise (KAP) regarding pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) among hypertensive antenatal mothers attending Antenatal clinics in OG department, Government Medical College, Kallakurichi district, Tamil Nadu. Methods: A hospital based cross sectional study was conducted to assess the Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice among hypertensive antenatal mothers attending antenatal clinics in OG department, regarding PIH using a pre-tested semi-structured questionnaire for a period of 3months from October to December 2024. The present was done using convenience sampling technique and the final sample size calculated was 101 participants. Data was analysed using SPSS software version 21. Results: A total of 101 antenatal mothers participated in...

Ambali is a traditional lactic acid-fermented porridge prepared from finger millet (Eleusine coracana), representing a significant convergence point between functional food science and culinary traditions. This narrative review examines the preparation, proposed health benefits, and mechanistic basis of dehydrated Ambali powder by integrating Ayurvedic Dravyaguna (pharmacological) principles with contemporary food biochemistry. Classical Ayurvedic literature was critically reviewed alongside recent in-vitro, in-vivo, and limited clinical research to interpret traditional claims through scientific evidence. From an Ayurvedic perspective, fermented Ambali exhibits Amla Rasa (sour taste), Laghu (light) and Sukhoshna (comfortably warm) Guna (qualities), and Pitta-Kaphahara (pacifying Pitta and Kapha doshas) action, attributed to its capacity to enhance Agni (digestive/metabolic fire) and prevent Ama (undigested metabolic toxin) formation. Contemporary research demonstrates that lactic acid fermentation enhances nutrient bioavailability, reduces antinutritional factors, generates bioactive compounds, and provides probiotic microorganisms. Biochemical mechanisms underlying improved digestibility and metabolic support include microbial enzymatic hydrolysis, phytate degradation, and organic acid production. The convergence of Ayurvedic digestive concepts with modern understanding of gut microbiome modulation underscores Ambali’s potential...

For many generations in Zimbabwe, Albizia antunesiana tree has been used in traditional healing. It has been widely used to treat infections, inflammation and other chronic illnesses such as diabetes. This study sought to provide scientific evidence to this ancient wisdom by testing the bark and leaves against modern biological markers. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of bioactive compounds like alkaloids, flavonoids, and tannins, which are natural compounds that the tree uses to protect itself and that we can use to improve human health. In the laboratory, the lyophilized extracts successfully hindered the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, with a Minimum Inhibitory Concentration of 40 and 20 mg/mL respectively. It also exhibited strong anti-inflammatory activity. By testing its ability to prevent protein denaturation, it was found that the extract reached its peak protective effectiveness at a concentration of 500 µg/mL, performing comparably to diclofenac sodium. Most importantly safety trials in animal models confirmed that at doses of 5000 mg/kg, the extract remained practically non-toxic. These findings validate...
