Milk is considered as a highly nutritious and valuable human food, consumed by the people in a variety of different products. The present work is an effort to have a survey of number of bacteria present in different milk samples viz., Raw, Boiled, Pasteurized and Skimmed milk collected from local market of Haridwar and its adjoining areas by serial dilution method and the quality of milk assessed by MBRT. The highest mean count was detected in raw milk having 211±0.8 cfu/ml. Among the four types, boiled milk appeared as of best quality. The major microbial contaminants were found to be Bacillus sp, Staphylococcus sp, Streptococcus sp, E. coli and Micrococcus sp. During the present investigation the antibiotic sensitivity test was also performed against all the five genera isolated. It was found that inhibition zone of Chloramphenicol and Ofloxacin was maximum against Streptococcus sp. (24 mm) and Staphylococcus sp....

The main purpose of the present study was to develop matrix moderated transdermal patches of Pioglitazone HCl using various ratios of Ficus carica fruit mucilage. Physical parameters such as moisture content, moisture uptake, tensile strength, elongation and folding endurance were evaluated. The matrix type transdermal patches were prepared using Pioglitazone HCl with Ficus carica fruit mucilage by the solvent evaporation technique. The interactions between Pioglitazone Hcl and Ficus carica fruit mucilage and Pioglitazone HCl were performed. The transdermal patches were subjected to various physicochemical parameters like mechanical properties, permeation studies and skin irritation studies were performed. The prepared patches possessed satisfactory preformulary and formulary characteristics. In vitro permeation studies were performed using a Keshary-Chien diffusion cell across hairless Albino rat skin. The nonionic surfactants Span 80, Glycerin, Propylene glycol in the formulation played a key role as permeability enhancers. The patches were found to seemingly free of potentially hazardous skin irritation. The experimental result shows that the release of drug from the patch was delayed in controlled manner as...

A novel, simple, accurate, sensitive, reproducible, economical spectroscopic method was developed and validated for the determination of Mefenamic acid and Dicyclomine hydrochloride in combined dosage form. Three different analytical methods, Absorption correction method, Differential derivative method, Simultaneous equation method were developed for estimation of Dicyclomine hydrochloride(10mg) and Mefenamic acid (250mg) in tablet dosage form. wavelength for estimation was 223nm for Dicyclomine hydrochloride and 308.60nm for Mefenamic acid in absorption correction method. 211.60nm was Zero crossing point of Mefenamic acid and 308.80nm was Zero crossing point of Dicyclomine hydrochloride which can estimate in differential derivative method. Simultaneous equation method was developed in NaOH which was linear in the range of 1-6µg/ml for Dicyclomine hydrochloride and 25-150µg/ml for Mefenamic acid, the correlation coefficient obtained was nearer to one. The method was validated for linearity, accuracy and precision as per ICH guidelines. The developed and validated method was successfully used for the quantitative analysis of commercially available dosage...

Impurity is something that is impure or makes something else impure. An impure substance may be defined as follows: a substance of interest mixed or impregnated with an extraneous or usually inferior substance, from the standpoint of its usage, the drug substance is compromised in terms of purity even if it contains another material with superior pharmacological or toxicological properties. The impurity may be developed either during formulation, or upon aging of both API’s and formulated API’s in medicines. The presence of these unwanted chemicals, even in small amount, may influence the efficacy and safety of the pharmaceutical products. The impurities are not necessarily always inferior. Highly sophisticated instrumentation, such as mass spectra meters attached to a Gas Chromatography or HPLC, are inevitable tools in the identification of minor components (drugs, impurities, degradation products, metabolites) in various matrices. Present article reveals different impurities found in the API’s, methods for identifying them and the possible measures to deal with the interferences caused by them in pharmaceutical...

The occurrence of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is around 20-30% in the general population. NAFLD is usually asymptomatic, although a minority of patients may present with evidence of progressive liver injury with complications of cirrhosis, liver failure, and hepatocellular carcinoma. In spite of being common and potentially serious, relatively little is known about the natural history or prognostic significance of NAFLD. The management focuses upon modifying metabolic risk factors. Insulin-sensitizing and hepatoprotective drugs have been subjected to study trials, but up till now, no agent has conclusively been established to prevent disease...
