The present study was designed to evaluate oral compression coated tablet formulation to achieve time and site specific drug release system to target lower GIT. A pectin based compression coated tablet formulation of different ratios and concentration of ethyl cellulose and cellulose acetate phthalate were designed and evaluated physico chemical parameters and for tinidazole release, compression coated tablet formulation 7.5% : 7.5% ethyl cellulose:cellulose acetate phthalate showed controlled drug release, were formulation showed no evidence of drug release in pH 1.2, but drug released was in simulated intestinal fluid pH 7.4 after 5 hours, further drug release continued in pH 6.8 i.e. pH of colon for 24 hours and was 87.38% after 24 hour, suited for colon specific drug delivery, on subjecting the selected formulation to in vitro microbial disintegration studies, the disintegration started within 4 hours of incubation period indicates that the usefulness of pectin in the formulation, were pectin is microbially hydrolysable and complete disintegration was observed after 16 hours. In vivo oral disintegration/ degradation the result...

Caesalpinia mimosoides Lamk. is a prickly climbing shrub belongs to Leguminosae family. various parts of this plant have been used in the treatment of ulcer, inflammation, wound healing and arthritis. The present study aimed at the evaluation of anti inflammatory property of different extracts of aerial parts by in vitro and in vivo methods. In vitro methods were estimated by protein denaturation and proteinase inhibition method. An in vivo method was estimated on the carragenan paw edema. Acute toxicity studies were performed as per OECD-423 guidelines. Toxicity signs and symptoms were not observed. Both methods showed significant anti-inflammatory activity of the different extracts...

A simple, accurate, precise and robust reverse phase High Performance Liquid Chromatographic method has been developed and validated for the estimation of Withaferin-A in polyherbal formulation namely Ranger Capsule. The chromatographic method was carried out isocratically with Phenomenex Luna C18 (2) (4.6 x 250 mm, 5 μ) and good resolution was achieved with acetonitrile: water (60: 40v/v) mobile phase. Withaferin- A was detected at retention time 4.04 min using flow rate 1.0 ml/min with UV detection at 230 nm. The calibration curve was achieved to be linear over a range of 2-20 μg/ml with regression coefficient of 0.9993. The proposed method was found accurate with 99.43 % – 100.64 % recovery. Relative standard deviation of repeatability, intra-day and inter-day variations were found to be 0.79 %, 0.12-1.55 %, 0.04-1.73 %, respectively. The Limit of Detection (LOD) and Limit of Quantification (LOQ) were observed to be 0.05 μg/ml and 0.16 μg/ml, respectively. This results shows that method was well validated. In the present study, Withaferin- A was found 80 µg...

In the last few years, there has been an exponential growth in the field of herbal medicine and these drugs are gaining popularity both in developing and developed countries because of their natural origin and less side effects. The World Health Organization (WHO) has listed 21,000 plants, which are used for medicinal purposes around the world. Among these 2500 species are in India, out of which 150 species are used commercially on a fairly large scale. India is the largest producer of medicinal herbs and is called as botanical garden of the world. In this study, we intend to do a systematic search to identify the most potent antidiabetic herbs that are available in India. Relevant medical databases and websites were searched. To qualify for inclusion, the herbs should have excellent antidiabetic potential confirmed with biomarker (reduction in HbA1c) and the herbs should also possess limited adverse effects if at all any. Eligible studies must also meet the following criteria: published in English and peer-reviewed journals. We also used...

Lawsonia inermis L. (Lawsone) is reported to contain carbohydrates, proteins, flavonoids and phenolic compounds, alkaloids, terpenoids, coumarins, xanthones and fatty acids. The plant has also been reported to have hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, antioxidant and anticancer properties. Lawsone has low bioavailability because it is less soluble in water and it is rapidly eliminated from body. The aim of this study was to prepare the phytosome of lawsone and evaluate it. Different phytosome complexes of lawsone containing molar ratio of 1:1, 1:2, 2:1 and 2:2 of lawsone and soya lecithin were prepared by the antisolvent precipitation technique. The phytosome was characterized by SEM, DSC and FTIR. Antifungal activity of phytosome of lawsone was evaluated on Candida albicans (NCIM 3471) fungi by using ketoconazole as standard drug. The in-vitro permeation study was done on rat skin. The anti-inflammatory activity was evaluated in male wistar rats. SEM and DSC data showed that phytosome complex of lawsone has irregular size vesicles consisting of soya lecithin and lawsone was found to be intercalated...
