Objective: Study to elucidate the relation between depression, gender and blood groups. Methods: The study was prepared on 279 medical students of IMTU, who have spent more than four months in the medical school. A Performa for testing depression scale was given to the students. Blood groups and gender were analyzed. Results: It was evident that few blood groups like A and O shown significant prevalence of mild depression and group AB with severe depression. Females shown a high frequency of mild depression and males demonstrated an elevated severe depressed condition. Conclusion: The present study shows that blood groups and gender and depression scales are...

Demonstration of safety and efficacy of the drug product for human use is important before the drug product gets approval for import or manufacturing of new drug by regulatory authority in any country. Once the clinical and preclinical data have been collected, a New Drug Application (NDA) must be submitted to regulatory authority for approval. Globalization of pharmaceutical industry has created the need to develop the recommendations for development of new pharmaceuticals as well as the regulatory requirement of various countries. Thus, a common format of submission will help in overcoming these difficulties. Through International conference on Harmonization (ICH), Common Technical Document (CTD) guidance’s have been developed for Japan, EU and United States and the Research based industry and more recently its electronic version the electronic Common Technical Document (eCTD). The CTD application format is now favored by USFDA as well as Worldwide regulatory authorities. Implementation of CTD is expected to reduce time and resources needed by the industry to compile applications for global registrations. Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) is...

The term ‘transgenic plant’ is defined as the plants that are produced in the lab by artificial insertion of genes sometimes from the same species and sometimes entirely from the different kingdom. A major advantage of transgenic plant because of which it gains a lot of importance in today’s world is developing it for producing pharmaceutically useful compounds. Hence, they are acting as a natural bioreactor for producing therapeutic proteins and peptides in large amount. The present work deals with the investigation of producing a Human Neutrophil Peptide-1 (HNP-1) which is an antimicrobial peptide and commonly known as Defensin in Lycopersicum esculentum Mill. plant by Agrobacterium tumefaciens mediated genetic transformation technique. The cloning of HNP-1 was successfully done in a plant expression vector ‘pGreenI 0029 with 35S CaMV promoter’ by authors and described earlier. In this work we would like to describe transformation of pGreenI 0029 with HNP-1 gene and 35S CaMV promoter, inside Agrobacteium tumefaciens cells and then genetic transformation of Lycopersicum esculentum Mill.plant via recombinant Agrobacteium...

The study is focused on developing a simple, rapid, validated High Performance Liquid Chromatographic (HPLC) method for Glimepiride Tablets from their dosage forms. The detection was carried out at 230 nm using Shimadzu UV – Visible detector HPLC system. The accuracy and precision were determined and validated statistically. The linearity was observed in the range of 15-120 µg/mL with a correlation coefficient of 0.999. The limit of detection and the limit of quantification were found to be 4 ng and 10 ng respectively. A Lichrosorb®(RP-18 column with a mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile – water – glacial acetic acid (550:450:0.6 v/v)) was used. The flow rate was 1 mL/min. The HPLC method is selective, precise and accurate and can be used for routine analysis of preparations in pharmaceutical industry quality control...

Every drug has two facets and the sinister side is becoming more apparent every day, sometimes resulting in product recalls by regulatory agencies due to serious adverse effects. Monitoring of unwanted side effects of allopathic drugs administered alone, and in combination with other drugs or dietary products causing drug-drug and drug-herbal/food interactions were lacking earlier, but information is now being unearthed in India. The aim of pharmacovigilance programmes is to bring this treasure trove of knowledge under one umbrella for consumers and all other stakeholders. Such programmes are meant to create awareness among physicians and surgeons for the better treatment of patients by advocating safe use of drugs, and at the same time collect risk/benefit data and collaborate globally to form a strong post-market surveillance network. Hopefully, the seeds of such programmes sown today will blossom into powerful and efficient tools and lead to meaningful outcomes in the future. Presently, pharmacovigilance in India is in its nascent stage. After two unsuccessful attempts, the third Indian venture to construct a...
