In the present review an attempt has been made to explore and study the various in vitro animal models used for the evaluation of hypolipidemic and antihyperlipidemic drugs. Hyperlipidemia has been ranked as one of the greatest risk factors contributing to the prevalence and severity of coronary heart disease. The main aim of treatment in patients with hyperlipidemia is to reduce the risk of the occurrence of cardiovascular or cerebrovascular disease. The present review throws a light on the various herbal drugs used as potential hypolipidemics and antihyperlipidemics. Emphasis has been laid on the study of animal models used in the evaluation and screening of antihyperlipidemic drugs. The review also encompasses the various treatments used for the management of...

The synthesis, characterization and spectroscopic studies of new N-substituted pthalimide analogues 2–7 with analgesic activity were described. The compounds were synthesized using phthalic anhydride with various appropriate amines (Triazolamine, Benzocaine, p-Nitro-aniline, pyrazinamide, Phenazone and glycine) in reflux synthesizer. The purity of the compounds was determined by TLC. With the physical and spectral data the structure of the new synthesized compounds were elucidated. The newly synthesized compounds were subjected for the screening of CNS activity by using standard experimental models. The analgesic activity of the selected compounds 2-7 were evaluated in vivo by ip carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and acetic acid- induced ‘writhing’ test in mice. Compounds 2-7 were exhibited significant analgesic activity in hot-plate and acetic acid inducer screening test comparable to the control CMC (Carboxymethylcellulose) and...

The present study has been designed to investigate the effect of modulation of tumour necrosis α (TNF-α) on naloxone induced opioid withdrawal syndrome. Chronic morphine (5mg/kg,i.p) administration followed by a single injection of naloxone (8mg/kg, i.p) was used to precipitate opioid withdrawal syndrome in mice. Behavioral observations were made immediately after naloxone treatment. Withdrawal syndrome was quantitatively assessed in terms of withdrawal severity score and frequency of jumping, rearing, fore paw licking and circling. Administration of pirfenidone (200mg/kg, p.o) markedly and dose dependently attenuated naloxone induced morphine withdrawal syndrome. Thus, it is proposed that glial cells activation via toll like receptor (TLR) linked mechanism might be involved in the development of opioid dependence and precipitation of its withdrawal...

Turmeric, curcuma longa L of Zingiberaceae family is a widely cultivated spice in India and other Asian countries. Turmeric is rich in curcuminoids, and recognized for their broad spectrum of biological activities, curcuminoids vary in chemical structures, physico-chemical characteristics as well as the functional properties. This study focused on separation of individual curcuminoids from spent turmeric oleoresin considered as an industrial waste and its purification by column chromatography followed by purity analysis by HPLC. Chromatographic purification of spent turmeric oleoresin was done with Diaion HP 20 resin, fractions were collected. Curcuminoid enriched oleoresin fractions combined & then subjected to hexane precipitation, purified curcuminoid enriched fraction obtained. Purified curcuminoid enriched fraction subjected to silica gel column chromatography to separate the individual curcuminoids with chloroform: methanol at increasing polarity. 10ml each 40 fractions were collected and TLC profile done. Same Rf fractions collected & evaporated. Total curcuminoids of individual fractions were determined by HPLC. Recrystallization of each compound was done using methanol: chloroform (5:1) at 3°C. Curcumin, Demethoxy curcumin, Bisdemethoxy curcumin...

The cyclic albino rats of body weight group (120-130 gm.) were intravaginally treated with single dose (0.1 ml) neem oil at various durations to study its anti-fertility efficiency. It was observed that a significant increase in ovarian weight in weekly three months treated rat group to control and a significant decrease in follicle numbers in single ovary in weekly and fortnightly one and three months treated rat group in comparison to control. The disturbed reproductive cycle showed a highly significant increase estrus frequency from control in case of weekly and fortnightly one and three month treated rat group. But in rat group treated for monthly one and three months showed a significant increase. The reversibility showed a highly significant decrease in fortnightly one month in comparison to weekly one month treated rat group whereas monthly one month treatment showed a significant decrease from fortnightly one month treated group. The fortnightly three months treatment showed a significant increase in the reversibility with weekly and monthly three months treated group. All such...
