PURPOSE: The aim of this retrospective study is to present data of patient characteristics, treatment patterns, and treatment results in an unselected patient population with small cell lung cancer (SCLC) in limited disease (LD) and extensive disease stage (ED). MATERIAL AND METHODS: All patients of carcinoma lung from April 2007 to December 2009 were analyzed for present study, conducted in department of radiotherapy, PGIMS Rohtak, Haryana. Total diagnosed lung cancer patients found were 531, out of which 41 patients were having small cell lung cancer (SCLC). These patients have been analyzed with respect to patient characteristics, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and treatment outcome. RESULTS: Twelve (29.27%) of all patients had LD SCLC. Mean age of patient was 58.9 years. Two (5.55%) patient had complete response (CR). Rest 32 (77.77%) patients had partial response. Seven (16.66%) patients did not turn up after treatment. Consecutive thoracic palliative radiotherapy was given in 22 (53.65%) patients. Additional prophylactic cranial irradiation (PCI) was administered to two patients. Sixteen patients (39.02%) received CT with Carboplatin and Etoposide and three (7.32%)...

The present study deals with the investigation of the effect of formulation variable on ketoprofen (KP) proniosomes prepared by spray method. A three factor, three level Box-Behnken design (DOE) with response surface methodology (RSM) was run to evaluate the main and interaction effect of several independent formulation variables that included cholesterol concentration % (X1), total lipid concentration µmole (X2), and total amount of drug mg (X3). The dependent variable included entrapment efficiency EE% (Y1) and % drug released at 6 hrs (Y2). A desirability function was used to maximize EE% and minimize the release percent to attain a controlled release formula. The transformed values of the independent variables and the dependent variables were subjected to multiple regressions to establish a full-model second-order polynomial equation. Contour plots were constructed to show the effects of X1, X2 and X3 on the Y1 and Y2. The computer optimization process and contour plots predicted the levels of independent variables X1, X2, and X3 (30, 2000, and 75 respectively), for maximized response of EE%...

The fruit extract of C. metuliferus was evaluated for its phytochemical and histopathologic properties. Phytochemical screening showed the presence of alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, sterols, saponins and cardiac glycosides. The histopathological effects of C. metuliferus fruit extract on the liver, kidney, spleen and pancreas of male adult albinos rats were investigated after daily oral administration for 28 days. The histological examination of rats administered 1000mg/kg of C. metuliferus fruits extract showed focal hepatocellular necrosis similar to that produced by paracetamol overdose. Necrosis of the epithelial cells of the kidney tissues was also observed in rats administered 1000mg/kg of C. metuliferus fruit. These observations suggest that daily oral administration of 1000mg/kg of C. metuliferus fruit extract for 28 days was associated with tissue damage of liver and kidney of the...

In continuing search for compounds with immunomodulatory activity, plant Aralia cachemirica has been found to contain continentalic acid (CA). Isolation of this pharmacologically significant diterpinic acid from Aralia cachemirica is novel. Chemical structure of this compound was identified by spectral analysis as (-)-pimara-8(14), 15-dien-19-oic acid, which has been isolated from A. cordata and A. continentalis. This compound has been evaluated for its effect on immunomodulaion. CA was found to inhibit production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, TNF-α) & nitric oxide (NO) in LPS induced macrophage activation, suppressed antibody titres & delayed type hypersensitivity reaction (DTH) when orally administered and increased the phagocytic activity by clearance of Candida albican infection from peritoneal cavity in mouse model...

A simple procedure is reported for the synthesis of Cefotaxime Sodium from an isolable activated ester, diethyl thiophosphoryl [(Z)-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-2-(methoxyimino) acetate (DAMA) and 7-ACA (7-Aminocephalosporinic acid). DAMA was synthesized from ATMA [(Z)-2-(2-aminothiazol-4-yl)-2-methoxyimino acetic acid] and DHP [O, O-diethyl O-hydrogen phosphorothioate], which was treated with 7-ACA and chloroform. A 95% pure Cefotaxime acid was obtained; upon further treatment of Cefotaxime acid with 2-ethyl hexanoate, 98.4 % pure Cefotaxime Sodium was obtained. The synthesized material was identified by Infrared spectroscopy & validated High Performance Liquid Chromatographic (HPLC) method and also quantified by HPLC method....
