Litsea, an outsized genus comprising 400 species of evergreen trees or shrubs, distributed chiefly in tropical and subtropical Asia, Australia, and therefore the Pacific Islands, belongs to the Lauraceae. Litsea polyantha is found throughout North, East, and Central India at an altitude of 1,200 m. It is often planted as an ornamental plant. It is mostly grown as an honest source of fodder for the livestock. It is alittle to medium-sized evergreen tree attaining a height of 21 m and a girth of 1.8m. Barks are dark grey or pale brown colour, exfoliating in quite small polygonal corky scales. In Folklore medicines-Bark, Stem, Roots and Leaves are wont to treat various diseases and disorders. The bark of Litsea polyantha is mildly astringent and used for diarrhea. Powdered bark and roots are used for pains, bruises, contusions and for fractures in animals. Background: Acute viral hepatitis (AVH) is a major public health problem. There is no specific treatment to attenuate AVH. The potential for adding bile acid in the treatment of AVH is consistently increasing. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of obeticholic acid (OCA) in treating AVH patients and also to compare its efficacy with ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA). Methods: A prospective comparative observational study carried out at the Department of Gastroenterology of tertiary care hospital. A total of 38 patients were allowed to participate in the study and randomized into two study groups, Group I and II. Each group consists of 19 patients. Patients in group I treated with UDCA. Group II patients treated with OCA. Results: The most common symptoms observed in the two study groups were nausea /vomiting followed by loss of appetite and abdominal pain. Mesenchymal stem cells are a small number of undifferentiated cells located in various tissues of the body. They have the ability to self-renew and differentiate into lineages of mesenchymal origin. They serve as most promising candidates for various regenerative medicine and tissue engineering applications. Their use in various clinical applications depend on their proliferative capacity to expand cell population. One of the key challenge to expansion is decline in proliferation and differentiation capacity of cells isolated from older individuals. In the present study, we have compared cellular characteristics of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells isolated from young (4 – 6 weeks age) and old (60-64 weeks age) rats.
