Herbal medicines play an important role in cancer prevention. Mangroves have been used worldwide due to the presence of various bioactive metabolites in it. The specific medicinal properties of Rhizophora mucronata have been an interest in preventing breast cancer. Mangroves Rhizophora mucronata belongs to family Rhizophoraceae. The leaf extract reveals various roles in folk remedies to treat various diseases. This analytical study aims to find out various phytochemical and components present in the leaf extract by the GC-MS technique. The methanol leaf extract revealed the presence of phytochemicals like saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, quinines, glycosides, cardiac glycosides, terpenoids, phenols, coumarins, and steroids. The GC-MS analysis provided nine different compounds like Phenol, 2, 4-bis (1,1-dimethyl ethyl)- (28.2%), Flavone- (66.9%), 4H-1-benz0pyran-4-one,7-hydroxy-2phenyl (39.8%), Chrysin (100%), 4H-1 Benzopyram-4-one, 7-hydroxy-2-phenyl-(100%), 5,8 Octadecadienoicacid, methyl ester-(55.8%), Phytol- (31.8%), Coumarine, 3-(2,4-dinitrophenyl)-(31.3%), Elaidic acid, isopropyl ester-(9.2%). Further purified compounds are used in the pharmacological industry against breast cancer and reduce the side effects and pains during the treatment of...

The bioactive peptides derived from food have increased consideration for their function in averting numerous chronic diseases, comprising, diabetes and obesity. Edible insects are the feasible composition of bioactive peptides owing to their high protein content and viable production. The present study was aimed to evaluate the antidiabetic and anti-obesity effects of seven edible insects’ protein hydrolysates after simulated gastrointestinal enzymatic digestion. Antidiabetic and anti-obesity efficiency was determined by the inhibition of digestive enzymes viz., dipeptidyl peptidase-IV, α-glucosidase, and α-lipase activity. Three active protein hydrolysate extracts (1.25, 2.5, and 5mg/dl) were selected and analyzed in terms of their IC50 values, and all tested extracts inhibited those enzyme activities in a dose-dependent manner. Based on the present study, we conclude the seven edible insects’ hydrolysate have potential enzyme inhibitory activities and thereby proved as an antidiabetic and anti-obesity...

Objective: We report the phyto-pharmacognostic evaluation and HPTLC finger-printing profile of the methanolic extract of Saptaparṇa [Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br.] leaves – unaffected and gall-affected, collected in January 2019. Materials and Methods: Physicochemical parameters and phytochemical screening were done by standard procedures. HPTLC finger-printing profile of the methanolic extracts of dried leaves and dried leaves with gall was performed on pre-coated TLC silica gel 60F254 plates with hexane: EtOAc: MeOH: formic acid (5:4.5:0.5:0.5 v/v) as developing solvent, with observation at 254 and 366 nm. Results: Some of the leaves had 15-20 galls on both surfaces. Powder Microscopy of the bitter-tasting green color leaf powder showed a group of epidermal cells, unicellular trichomes, elongated stone cells in the group, prismatic calcium oxalate crystals, single-layered fibers, reticulate vessels, anomocytic stomata, and reddish-brown color tannin matter; epidermis of gall cells, insect body in affected leaves. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloids, carbohydrates, terpenoids/steroids, phenolic compounds/ tannins, but an absence of reducing sugars and flavonoids. A large number of bands were...

Stevioside glycosides (SGs) are a class of diterpene glycosides being produced by leaves of Stevia rebaudiana. Stevia is getting agricultural importance due to the production of natural sweetener steviol glycosides, also called as zero-calorie sweeteners. Earlier it was thought that steviol was synthesized from Kaurene via MVA pathway but later on it was concluded that precursors of steviol are actually synthesized via the plastid localized methylerythritol 4-phosphate (MEP) pathway. In total, seventeen enzymes are used in this biosynthetic pathway. Each enzyme plays a significant role in the subsequent production of rebaudioside A and other SGs. In order to understand those enzymes functionally, understanding of those genes evolution basically in the Asteraceae family is highly warranted. In this study, the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) was searched to retrieve amino acid sequences that encode MEP pathway enzymes homologs. A number of MEP pathway enzymes’ amino acid sequences from the Asteraceae family were phyleticaly analyzed to light the way for the evolution characteristics of sweetener-producing plants homologs. The study is...

The present study deals with the identification of the phytochemical compounds in ethanol, acetone and benzene extracts from polyherbal formulation composed of the bark of Ficus religiosa, the root of Smilax chinensis, seeds of Nigella sativa, the fruit of Emblica officinalis, Terminalia chebula and Terminalia bellerica which is used to treat psoriasis. The bioactive components of different extracts of the polyherbal formulation were determined by liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectroscopy (LC-MS) analysis. LC-MS analysis of the ethanol extract of the polyherbal formulation revealed the presence of the 9 bioactive chemical constituents, 5 phytochemicals in the acetone extract of polyherbal formulation and the benzene extract consist of 4 bioactive compounds. The results of this present study provide scientific support to medicinal uses of the polyherbal formulation. These compounds may exhibit an antipsoriatic activity which can be done in further...
