Anaemia is a widespread problem that can be characterized by a decreased number of red blood cells and decreased haemoglobin levels. The aim of this study was to explore the antianaemic efficacy of mahua flower concentrate and mahua laddoo in comparison to the clinically prescribed iron tablet, Livogen XT, in an anaemic rat model. The anaemic rat model was developed by the administration of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine. The antianaemic effects of mahua flower concentrate and mahua laddoo were evaluated by quantifying haematological limits, including haemoglobin contents, red blood cell count, and haematocrit. Additionally, proximate analysis was performed for the mahua flower concentrate and mahua laddoo. The proximate content of mahua concentrate and mahua laddoo exhibited good equilibrium of macronutrients, including carbohydrates and proteins, along with fat content, which contributes to their energy-providing properties. Orally, mahua concentrate and mahua laddoo were administered for a period of 23 days. The results revealed a significant increase in the haematological parameters in the treated groups compared with those in the negative control group. The use...

Prediabetes, a transitional metabolic state preceding type 2 diabetes, is characterized by insulin resistance, moderate hyperglycaemia, dyslipidaemia, and oxidative stress. This study evaluates the preventive effects of aqueous extracts from the leaves, calyces, and seeds of Hibiscus sabdariffa L. (white variety) on glucose and lipid metabolism disorders induced by a high-calorie diet in Wistar rats. Eight groups of six male Wistar rats were fed for 12 weeks with either a standard diet, a high-calorie diet, or a high-calorie diet combined with two doses (100 or 200 mg/kg) of the plant extracts. The leaf and calyx extracts significantly reduced weight gain, BMI, blood glucose, insulin levels, HOMA-IR, and HOMA-B indices (p < 0,05), showing no significant differences compared to the standard diet group (p > 0,05). Postprandial blood glucose levels also approached those of the standard group. These extracts significantly lowered triglycerides, total cholesterol, and atherogenic indices (TG/HDL-C, CRI, AIP) (p < 0.05), while the reduction in HDL cholesterol remained non-significant (p > 0,05). In contrast, untreated high-calorie diet rats...

The study investigates to find the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of the crude extract of coral Pseudopterogorgia australiensis. Various assays were used to assess the biological activities of the crude extract. The antioxidant capacity was evaluated using DPPH, ABTS, and FRAP tests. The DPPH assay indicated a dose-dependent radical scavenging effect whereas the ABTS assay showed a significant inhibition of which is comparable to ascorbic acid. In the case of FRAP assay it confirmed that the antioxidant activity revealing a strong reducing power which was equivalent to Trolox. These results demonstrated that the crude extract of Pseudopterogorgia australiensis have strong potential to neutralize ROS and mitigate oxidative damage. The Anti-inflammatory activity was assessed through albumin denaturation, proteinase inhibitory activity, and heat-induced heamolysis. The albumin denaturation assay demonstrated moderate inhibition where as the proteinase inhibitory assay showed stronger inhibition which is comparable to diclofenac sodium. In the case of heat-induced heamolysis it showed notable dose-dependent inhibition of protein denaturation which is comparable to the standard drug diclofenac sodium. From the...

Introduction: Super Vasmol, an emulsion-based hair dye containing paraphenylenediamine (PPD), is an emerging cause of suicidal poisoning in developing countries, commonly presenting with cervicofacial oedema, rhabdomyolysis, and acute kidney injury (AKI). Cardiac involvement, though rare, typically manifests as tachycardia or myocarditis. This report highlights sinus bradycardia as an unusual presentation. Case Presentation: Two adult women with Super Vasmol poisoning developed marked sinus bradycardia during hospitalization. Case 1, a 34-year-old woman, presented with mild dysphagia and developed asymptomatic sinus bradycardia (heart rate [HR] 38–50/min) on day 3, resolving by day 6. Case 2, a 30-year-old woman, had mild cervicofacial edema and symptomatic bradycardia (HR 40–50/min) with giddiness and breathlessness on day 3, which normalized by day 6. Both patients recovered with conservative management. Conclusion: Sinus bradycardia is a rare but significant manifestation of Super Vasmol poisoning, potentially linked to PPD-induced cardiotoxicity or other components. Clinicians should recognize this atypical presentation to optimize management and reduce mortality in resource-limited settings where such poisoning is...
