ANTIBACTERIAL ACTIVITY OF METHANOLIC SEED COAT EXTRACT OF BORASSUS FLABELLIFER L.

The antibacterial activity of methanol extract of Borassus flabellifer L. (Arecaceae) seed coat (soft outer shell) was studied by agar well diffusion method in vitro.  The tender seed coat of Borassus flabellifer was extracted with methanol. The effect of antibacterial potential was examined against Gram positive bacteria i.e., Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Gram negative bacteria i...

SYNTHESIS, EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES OF THE ANTIMICROBIAL POTENTIAL OF SOME NOVEL 1, 5- BENZO THIAZEPINE DERIVATIVES

Optically active 1, 5- benzothiazepines belong to the well known benzothiazepine type substances. Some of them possess important bioactivities. In this article, optically active 2, 3-dihydro-1, 5-benzothiazepine derivatives are synthesized by the reaction of new α-β unsaturated carbonyl compounds with 2-aminothiophenol under mild conditions in the presence of silver sulphate in acetonitrile in s...

SYNTHESIS AND IN- VITRO ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF SOME NEW 2, 5-DISUBSTITUTED-1, 3, 4-OXADIAZOLES CONTAINING FURAN MOIETY

A series of five membered heterocyclics was synthesized by the reaction between refluxing 2 - furoic acid with ethanol and conc. H2SO4. The obtained ester (2) with hydrazine hydrate and ethanol was refluxed to give hydrazides (3). Reaction of hydrazides (3) with different aromatic acids using phosphorousoxy trichloride (POCl3) lead to the formation of  2-Aryl -5-furyl -1, 3, 4-oxadiazoles [DM (1-...

ANALGESIC AND ANTIDIARRHOEAL ACTIVITIES OF LAWSONIA INERMIS

The leaf of the plant Lawsonia inermis was examined for analgesic and anti-diarrhoeal properties. From the study of analgesic activity it was found that ethanol extract at a dose of 500 mg/kg exhibited no significant (p<0.3) inhibition of writhing reflex (28.45 % inhibition) while the inhibition of standard drug diclofenac sodium showed 82.7 % inhibition at a dose of 25 mg/kg body weight. The f...
